As noted in another thread, I recently purchased a 2005 ES 130 (MIJ), which is lovely in every way. One thing that has surprised me (and I didn't notice at first) is that it has a heel cap on the otherwise one-piece neck.

It's not really an issue - it surely has no influence on tone or playability (!) and is barely noticeable, but I wasn't expecting it.

Is this common with Tokai MIJ?

I will try to get a photo next time I am at home.

In the meantime, I suppose I should clarify. When I say 'heel cap', I mean an extra piece of wood "spliced" onto the heel, like this (not my guitar):

It is NOT a plastic cap like this:

No, it is not common. I have seen so far MIJ ES120 only with one pcs. African mahogany neck (incl. heel)

You might show us a couple of detailed pics of your new guitar...

It's unusual but not unprecedented. My LS model has a two piece join in that area but it's only visible in the neck pickup cavity.
