The music store I work at acquired this Tokai a few months ago, and as far as our research showed, it is a 2004 Love Rock, made in Korea (quite obvious, as it says on the back of the headstock). A couple of days ago, an interested customer emailed us and said it's part of a fake batch sold in Canada, commissioned by a dealer, and made without the approval of Tokai. He also says that MIK Tokais have 3-screw truss rod covers, and this one has a single screw. Pictures below.

If it is a fake, it appers to be a well-made guitar. Fret work is clean and level. It's also pretty solid, weighing in at 9.5 lbs, which seems to indicate real mahogany, and not basswood underneath.

Any help would be great!

Imported to Canada by a gentleman who also distributed Dillion and Hagstrom, they were sold at Guitar Shack which used to be at Dufferin and Centre Streets but has moved.

They are not Tokai guitars but as you've noticed they aren't too bad...

Thanks for the links, very helpful. Well, that's disappointing from the store's standpoint, but at least it plays and sounds great. Hopefully someone will fall in love with it for its qualities and not its origins.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Be careful, now that you know better you may be committing a crime by knowingly selling fake goods even if you advertise them as such.

Just for people Goggling or searching this subject . . . I know its not really applicable to this thread, but, this seems to be a common topic.
Tokai has NO Canadian distributors, and set neck models are not supposed to be in North America. This info came to me two days ago after getting burned by a Canadian dealer.
Thats Ok though . . . I am watching the vendor who tried to sneak junk by me, and every time I see one sell, I am telling the buyer what Tokai told me. Eventually the offending dealer will get it.
