But the thing I'm curious about: in your mind, by how much should such a guitar be discounted for the missing logo? Or put another way, if you owned one without logo, how much would it be worth to you to have the original logo?

With vintage refins, a common rule is refin=50% off, and then some adjustments from there, but for a logo I'm not sure.

For me, I guess somewhere between 200 and 300 US$. It doesn't kill the guitar, but it reduces the appeal.

Also interested in your thoughts whether that neck could have been refinished. Note the fingerprints around the stamped 80 (not conclusive, I know) and the darker areas around the edges, as if at least the front has been refinished or oversprayed (with a refret perhaps). For instance the edge near the neck pocket. Also around the tuners the nitro seems darker, as if they oversprayed it and it was harder to rub it out around there.

Missing logo deduct 10 per cent maybe, replacement logos can be sourced.Difficult to tell about respray on this guitar but the tuners are non original as they are unstamped.

As to your question about the (Tokai) logo, when buying a guitar I also look at whether it as a logo or not. But when I find the right one without a logo, I wouldn't let it pass by, so no deal breaker for me.
Discount for no logo, never even thought about it, a logo carries no financial surplus to me.

PS I'd rather have one with the Tokai logo though.

Thanks for the replies. This one kind of speaks to me, with the fine-grained body wood and the way the 2T sunburst comes out, but many others do. I'll be headed to Japan early December so the hunt is on. :)

Couldn't be any more different, but I'm pondering this one too. From all I've read, they're great guitars, and I like the finish.

Thanks. I'm heading there in a week. I might get it if he drops the price 10,000 Yen this week, else I rather save my luggage space for guitars I can try out in shops. Bidding on another guitar as we speak. Will update if I get it. ;)

Well, I got outbid, but there's always another one. :)

I'm almost relieved, because it's really better to pay a bit more in a store and make sure it's a keeper.
