When I asked my friend as to why it's fallen into such a state, he mentioned that there supposedly used to be a Scottish Law which taxed buildings ONLY if they had roofs. Therefore, some owners might've removed the roofs, or simply allowed them to get destroyed over the years in order to avoid tax.

You can also see some 'walled in' windows as a result of the 'window tax'. This was common in quite a few countries.

Baffles me how it could've deteriorated that badly, that quickly. Although, in all fairness, the weather there is pretty darn harsh.

Looted for building materials? Looks like a fair bit of stone has gone missing.
