Hi,

help me to identify that guitar. Is it original Tokai from late ~70s ?
He said that he changed hardware to schaller and BKP pickups.

70's ?? i don't think so. If there was an impression on the last fret showing a number then maybe, but this one hasn't got one. Ask for the serial number from the back of headstock close up.

I asked about serial number, waiting for reply.
Thanks, on the other hand, who's putting top hardware and top pickups to fake, hmm.

Might not be a fake, just might not be a '70's Tokai. Its hard to remember back then perfectly.

Seller said, that there's no serial number on headstock, he bought that guitar in Germany in middle 80's. Since them, he was the only owner.
He asks 600$ for that, what do you think ?

Well i can't tell whether it's a real Tokai by those pictures and the fact that it has no serial number means it was either given a thick refinish in black or it isn't a tokai at all. Do you have a chance to play it at all ??

As always - Buyer beware.

Unfortunately i'm not able to play it.
Waiting for more pictures from seller, than i'll decide.

Thanks brokentoes for you help.

Hi guys,

To me it looks Korean - not Japanese. Japanese models do not use cream covers on the rear panels. That would place it in the very late 80s, possibly 90's. Also the lack of serial number was a feature of the first Korean models.

Tokai Korean manufacture used different woods to Japan so that is a concern and he seems to have changed every other distinguishing part - TRC, pickups, all the hardware, pickup surrounds are the wrong colour for a Standard, rosewood fingerboard is very light for a supposed 35 Y.O. guitar.
I would guess that if you removed the Bell Truss Rod Cover, it would have 3 screw holes instead of 2 screw holes.
At $600.00 it's over-priced, I would go $350, maybe $400.
Whatever you do, don't let him carry on about the Schaller hardware. Whilst their hardware is good, it does not add value to the guitar as the original hardware would have been just as good and did not need replacing.
