My son just gave me this guitar and it is a beauty.
I think it is a 1980 Silver Star SS-38 ( or SS-36 ) 0012302 but not for sure.
Here are some pictures to help ID it.
also, is the finish nitro or poly or ?? as I am buying a
new Fender tweed case with the red fuzzy lining and want to make sure
it doesnt react with the finish.
The guitar plays GREAT and I will take pickguard off soon for more info.
Great Group and thanks for the valuable information exchange from everyone.

Hi wosinek
the pics certainly point towards a 1980 SS-36 BBR.
The finish would be poly, not nitro.
It looks very original so if it plays well and sounds great " don't try to fix what ain't broke"

so I'll look up BBR to see what piece of the puzzle that adds.
Thanks guys for the help.
It is all original i believe but will check on pickups soon.
So is there anything to be concerned of with a poly finish as
far a guitar stands or cases etc.

Thanks

Poly is pretty indesctructible. As far as I know, only nitro finished, higher spec guitars has any issues with stands and case linings.

Hi wosineck,

BBR is no mystery - BB means a Black finish ; the R stands for a rosewood fingerboard. The R is absent if it had a maple fingerboard.

Got it.... BBR it is. Thanks guys....and it does plsy real good.
But i think ill run the treble at 8 since the bridge pickup is pretty bright.
