Egnater Rebel 20 - any views?

Post by wishbonz » Wed Jul 20, 2011 7:01 am

Does any member own, or have first hand experience of these little 20w valve amps? Sounds impressive on some of the YouTube demos. Theory sounds good but does it work in real life?

Yes, played one on several occasions; very thin, bleak sounding amp.

Thanks for your input Jacco, as a matter of interest what set up did you use - speaker cab, single coil or humbucker p/up guitar - anyone else had a similar negative experience?

OK, background: I own a lot of 50s and 60s tubes and am regularly asked to help to get better tone out of amps.
I tested a Rebel 20 with a Jazzmaster & a Les Paul in combination with a Hook 2 x 12 speaker cabinet loaded with a V30 & G12-65. It's a very hifi sounding amp and the tube mix doesn't do that much.
I also worked on a Renegade 212, as a matter fact will do that again tonight. It has a different tube line up but the same sound; hifi, clinical, not warm and lacking dynamics/depth.

You're welcome, it's my opinion though, hope others will chime in.
