Hi guys i'm new to this site and looking for a bit of advice.
Could someone please provide some information about this rare Tokai Goldstar Sound?
Is it a good guitar? How much would it cost?
Thank you very much and greetings from Spain

Hello, welcome to the forum,
I don't know about your guitar as to what it is, the routing looks all wrong to me (front and back), as do the numbering stamps, after comparing your guitar with my 84/85 TST-60, sorry, i hope someone else has better news than me

There is a similar looking guitar here...

http://www.tokaiforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=16950

The neck pocket screw holes have been countersunk, very Tokai, that i do know about it.
But I just don't know much at all about these later models.

Thank you very much for your responses. The truth is that the guitar sounds great and I think will be a real Tokai, but I prefer that the experts are saying ...
Thanks and regards

Hi all, I have one of these, exactly the same but a lower serial number.Cracking guitar. Has a two piece body, Final Pro Spec saddles and Kluson style machines without the Deluxe stamp (same as my 1990 flying V).
I agree that the routing is not typical to an 80's Goldstar but the single coil routs are the same as my Goldies with the later VII pickups and the humbucker very similar to those found on Super editions. Mine still has the same MIJ sticker on the neck ,in the same place as the 80's Goldies, just in front of the neck pocket. Also the counter sunk holes for the neck screws and the couple of small holes in the centre of the neck pocket are exactly the same as 80's Tokai's.
In my opinion 100% Tokai ,but a later model, I'm thinking early 90's maybe later ?

Hi I also think that there is no doubt that is a Tokai, in this forum I found interesting the following:
A rough guide is:

ST40 - non-Kluson type tuners, ceramic pickups, 3 or 4 piece body
ST50 - Kluson type tuners, alnico pickups, 3 piece body
ST60 - as ST50 with arguably better pickups (maybe, maybe not), 2 piece body
ST80 - as ST60 but nitro finish
ST100 - as ST80 but possibly 1 piece body & probably gold plated hardware.

You could be a st60 or st50 (2 piece body) mid-84's right?
regards

Nope, your guitar is not a mid 80's Goldstar, more likely mid 90's+

Mid 90's?? I think the correct headstock goldies were 83 and 84. That's a great looking natural finish on a nice plank of wood.... marvelous grain. Looking at the back of the headstock, the neck appears to be a quartersawn piece of wood.

Yep, TST models back then did have correct headstock shape, the local Japan models I have seen after 1985 are called ST Goldstars also have the correct headstock, however, the export model since late 80's is now called AST and have the pointy headstock.

Yes I think Grecoburst is right mid 90`s model with slab board.Gabe .P.S. We also had the unmodified headstock here in the u.K. till 1990 and maybe beyond.

Hi I think the guitar is rather curious, to set the routing for humbucker...

Greetings

Hi I would sell the guitar but not much it will cost. Any suggestions?
Greetings and thanks

hm...

that's a fake in my books.

- neither alder nor ash body
- Tokai only did HB routings on the super strats
- wood matching simply isnt Tokai, way too crude
- the routing at the side is just ridicolously bad
- not a single wire even fits MIJ
- neck isn't maple; or very, VERY fast growing maple

cheers, rup

Early to mid 90s Goldstar.

Likely June 1991 or June 1992.

1994 catalog under Export models.
