Hi guys.

I'm thinking about buying this guitar:

I want to be sure that it's not a fake, and that it has the correct markings etc before I make an offer.

Any help or advice on what to look for will be greatly appreciated,

I'm thinking about seeing it Sat Jan 22nd or Sun 23rd.

Thanks again,

John

By the way, should the "80" (that's stamped below the last fret) be finished with lacquer, or did they stamp them afterwards? I'm guessing lacquered, as it wouldn't make sense to stamp into the finished neck?

The 80 in the picture doesn't look straight, was that common?

Also, should the waterslide "7okai" be under or over the lacquer. Again, I'm guessing that it would make sense to have it under the lacquer to avoid peeling/cracking etc. Then again I could be totally wrong.

Are the tuners stamped Tokai or Deluxe, and is the bridge always stamped?

Sorry to have so many questions...

The markings look ok. The fretboard stamp means the guitar is a pretty early one, probably from 1978.

The bridge pickup has been changed and I'd want a closer look at the bridge hardware itself.

I bought this guitar about 15 years ago in Germany and think it's an '82 model.
Can anyone tell me the exact year?

Nice one... pretty butterscotch finish. I'd say it's an 81 from the serial number. Probably a TE50 or TE55

Isn't the logo on the wrong side of the retainer for a maple board and the string retainer in the wrong place? Or did they vary?

I'm not sure, but i think its in the right place for a 8 hole pickguard.
Its in the same place as on this TE200 from Mark.

No I'm not sure either, where's stratman323 when we need him...

Here's an 8 hole pick guard with the logo as I've described (one of ruperts). All the pic's I can find on catalogues etc of the period show the logo in this position.
