My favorite match for the Tokai Les Pauls is the Fender Bassman top with a Marshall 4x12 cabinet (2 greenbacks, 2 G12H30). I switch the input channels now and then, depending on the guitar I use. The "Bass" channel has more gain with less bass which fits my Tokai Tobacco Sunburst with P-94 pickups and/or self-built Stratocaster. The Tokai Cherry Sunburst LS 60 with Gibson Shaw PAFs goes into the "Normal" channel most of the time, as it has more bass and less (but enough) gain than the "Bass" channel. Knobs are either turned to zero (bass, treble) or ten (volume) except for the Presence knob which I use to adjust to the individual guitar and speaker sound.

I love my new Feder Twin 65' Re-Issue. It blows me away with it's tone! I've played through an old 67' Fender Deluxe I liked it but... It was in BAD condition so I didn't get it's full sound I believe. I play blues with a Fender Strat and if I toy with it enough I can get a Stevie Ray sound out of my Twin. I've never played a Paul style guitar trough my Twin, only my good ol' 57' Strat, but hope to put a Tokai Love Rock or Burny through it soon 8)

right now I'm really digging my reverend hellhound head and marshall 1936 2x12. really sounds excellent. nice and clear but really ballsy.

THE CORNELL PLEXI 18/20!!

If you play a Strat or a Les Paul, then you must try one cranked up!

I just love my Reynolds APR-501 , It's a fifty watt head with a 2x12 cabinet.Pure Tone handmade in Australia,It a 2 channel amp,the first channel is very similar tonewise to some vintage american amps starting with F .The second channel sounds similar to an old English classic starting with M

May as well add to two cents...

Practice at home with a Roland Cube30. I think this is a great little amp with a good range of sounds. I bought this because my other amp is a Fender M80 Chorus. The Fender is too loud for home use but thats the only use it gets

I have never really been able to get the sound I wanted from the Fender but this is probably because I have to have it so low. If I want a distorted sound I generally go to the overdrive channel but usually end up with something that sounds too fuzzy. I would like a crunchy but clear sound. What do you guys use for this? Not very good with amps me :x

I don't know the Fender M80, but it sounds as if it's a transistor amp, right? Usually it's harder to get a good medium crunch sound from them than with an all-tube amp, but with some more experimenting or a good pedal (e.g. Ibanez Tube Screamer) you might get what you want, too. I'm using a Mesa Boogie Mark IIB at home that is also able to sound like this at bedroom level.

Hans your right, Transistor amp it is, from the early 90's. Its not bad at high volume but you loose everything when you have it low. I have never looked into a good tube amp. Well is tube searching for the next hour or so.

Quattro - take a look at this (going cheap, & soon!) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=10171&item=7312517908&rd=1 ... no connection to me & I've never tried one, but slightly bigger model FA40 Combo (1x12) is pretty good (both have an overdrive channel & reverb). Otherwise, I rate the little Cube-30 pretty highly ... may need to spend lots of dosh on a small boutique valve thingy to get noticeably better (I?m assuming you?re in UK?) :-? .

Ian.

Hi Ian, Didn't pick this reply up until Saturday so I missed it. I'm in Ireland but that's not a problem. I have relations in London and friends up the north. Nice price for a valve amp! but not to be.

Being unable to find an 18 W mini BB like Ian's (Curse!) I tried a Cornell "Plexi" head and was well pleased. Like the mini BB no frills just a great tone that you can cut down to 5 watts for 'mucking around'. Dosent look as cute though :D . Any photo's Ian - with the favorite 'paul alongside?
Cheers,
Mike.

Zinky Superfly!!!!!!!

Bruce Zinky used to run the Fender Amp Custom Shop in the '90s when they were in Scottsdale. Now he builds his own up in Flagstaff, AZ. He is perhaps best known for his Smoky mini-amps. I think he's made some stuff for the Rev, in fact he told me that whenever ZZ comes to town he comes down to Phoenix and escorts the man around town (if you're listening Hans and all you other Rev afficionados).

The Superfly is a programmable tube amp. The busines side is all analog, but it has a digital memory interface that drives the (discrete) pot settings. Basically it is like a tube Line6 (without the effects).

It is incredible. It has 6 different gain structures so you can go from pristine Fender clean to super tube crunch and anything in between. Its 12AX7/5881 (6L6) based. And you can save up to 32 presets and get your sounds at the touch of a midi button. I sound like a salesman I know, but I just love this amp. I've been playing it for a good couple of years now and I'm still not over it!

I've also got a Zinky Blue Velvet, which is an 18 W 1 x 12 combo that I play at home. I was looking for something for a while, and kind of wanted to stretch out but there was just no denying it here either!

Bruce is a great guy too. Excellent customer sevice. He did a mod for me on a Saturday one time while my wife and I went for a hike!

I'm not sure how he is doing financially, but I'd really like to see him succeed. Spread the word across the globe!

Scott
