i've just had a look through the book "David Gilmours Black Strat"
(thank you Lenny)

and thought i'd offer a brief synopsis .......if you love DG ....which i ...and i'm sure many others of you do........ it's great buy it on Amazon now ...

however i have to remind you of the tale of George Washingtons axe !!!

when someone asked why it was in such good condition they said "it's had 3 new blades and 4 new handles" .......

i'm afraid it's still in the fingers boys !!!!
 
Of course! Tone is 85% fingers and the rest gear. However Gilmour would not have the same tone playing a humbucking unit vs. single coils and you know that :p Sure he does play his Gretsch from time to time but tonally different for sure.
