That one used to be mine! Nice smallish V neck and in great condition! I think the starting price is fair, a very good price in UK/Europe would be 600-650 but the problem is finding one!

Bacchi seem to have gone up a lot in the last year or two, more than Tokais have done.

I think that's mainly to do with the fact there aren't a lot of Bacchi already in the country/Europe and the cost of getting a guitar from Japan to here has increased a lot in the last few years, partly to do with prices going up in Japan, but more to do with the shocking GBP/JPY exchange rate.

A lot more Tokais are changing hands that were originally bought in the UK/Europe so the owners are only trying to re-coup what they paid plus a bit for inflation.

If you are in the UK the 'bargains' are on ebay UK

That 57 is gorgeous.

Bacchus is still relatively unknown here in the States. The thing I hear more about mine is "What is it? Can I play it?"

With all the discusson about the pickups, in my own pedestrian way, like Rich said, I think the pickups in it are some of the best strat pickups I've ever heard...... and for some reason, I'd concluded that they were Yutas. Now finding that they aren't, it doesn't change how good they sound or how **** well made that guitar is...... just love it.

Agree Marcus, my point is that Yutas or Alnico Specials could well just be different names for the same thing, and that there were variations in production details over the years. Mij says Yutas Suck, but to my ears they sound the same as the ones with flat poles.

I think i'm going round in circles

Time for a picture :D

My Bacchi - P90s and single coils. Haven't researched what they are but they sound absolutely great :D

Nice pic Dave!! A lovely pair of Bacchi :D

mij, I've had multiple sets of Strat pickups, and can hear the differences in all of them, but the two Bacchus variants (or is it three) sounded very similar to me, what puzzles me is how you can one one type and say the others suck, there must be something else in the equation.

what could that "something else" be?

.

The guitar they are in??

As I've said repeatedly, I've compared flat pole and bevelled pole pickups in Bacchus Strats and they sounded very similar, to say that one type sucks and another is great would suggest they are very different. What differences did you hear?

If you can wait a few months, search Japan auctions and get one for 50k yen (maybe less), which is about 400 Euro, but you will have shipping and fees on top of that.

Just as an example this one is 44,800 buy it now, but it's left handed:

As I stated previously in another thread, and not in these exact words, my ears like the flat pole top examples because IMO they have a more ?vintage? tone.
My ears didn?t care for the beveled pole top examples because IMO they have a hotter/less vintage tonal response.
Remember, that is a comparison with my ears, not your ears, not a meter, just my ears.
That is a comparison with two examples with the beveled poles, and four examples with the flat poles.
I?m looking for a vintage type response from a Strat single coil, not a hotter/less vintage response.

Haven?t we beaten this horse to death twenty five times over? ??????

Yes we have, but the problem is that both of my sets have flat top poles & I like them because they are fatter, warmer & hotter than typical vintage spec Strat pickups. And measuring them just confirms that they are hot, overwound pickups. I can't comment on the bevelled top pickups as I haven't tried them, but the flat top pickups I have, & I believe that John has too, are amongst the fattest & loudest Strat pickups I have tried.

John, your white No. 1 Strat has flat top poles doesn't it?

I know quality & tone is subjective, but output isn't, it can be measured. That's why some of us measured our pickups before, & those measurements are amongst the few facts we have available to us.

Mike my white one has the flat tops in the middle & neck and a newer YUTA in the bridge as it came with a hot rails thingy,

I agree, I think they are very hot and not particuarly vintage sounding, but still clear and Stratty in a way something like a Texas special isn't.

now I'm confused.. a '57 replica shouldn't have a small neck, should it? Or did you mean small for a Bacchus??

Thanks! I think that's best way to go. I bought 4 MIJs the last 3 months, I hope I will have some patience from now on..

I meant small for a Bacchus, I have two with huge necks, the '57 on ebay is really nice! JVsearch was saying to pick one up on Rinkya for 50000 yen, with Rinkya fees VAT and shipping thats ?600 landed, if you can find one. There are a few on YJ at the minute around the 90K mark
