Don't want y'all to think I've disappeared.

I've got a herniated disc in my lower back and will have surgery on Friday (12/10) to fix the problem - pinching nerve in my right leg. The procedure is quick (30-45 minute operation) but it may be a number of days before I'm back on the old PC.

Wow Ned I hope you're not in too much pain right now! As I understand, a herniated disc is very painful if it presses onto one of the spinal nerves. All the best and get well soon!

Thanks Arthur. Right now I have no back pain, the occasional pain shot down the leg. The biggest problem is extremely reduced movement and strength in my right leg. When then test the reflexes on my knee and ankle there is zero movement.

MRI revealed bulging disc which is pressing on the nerve.

The most depressing thing is I think this was caused by my new Reborn. The Reborn is significantly heavier than my 03 Love Rocks. Time for exericses to build the back musles. First back spasm back in '92 was caused by a LP Custom.

Hi Ned ? sorry I missed this thread. Hope you get the disc sorted OK,? well should be a straightforward procedure & 100% successful I guess. Hope it doesn?t mean you need to switch to a lighter guitar. Anyway, best of luck on Friday .

Ian.

Update: Got home from the hospital this morning. A little discomfot, not suppose to sit. Walk every hour .

Ian, not chance on switching to a lighter guitar will just have to do exercises every day to strengthen the back. Part of getting older I guess.

Operation only to 30 minutes. Doctor was very pleased.

Doctor pleased? To hell with the Doc, what do you think, are you OK? You said ?out of pocket?,? you mean medical costs high in US? As for weight of that Reborn,... well I guess you have to suffer for your art.

Seriously ? all the best, hope it heals up nicely & you?re fighting fit again asap .

Ian.

Glad to hear the operation went well, Ned! Hope your full recovery will go as smoothly as the operation apparently did. As we say in Holland: "beterschap"! (means something like "get well soon", not "progress" as some online dictionaries say)

Out of pocket = limited PC access. I can only sit for 15 minutes per day until my next visit on Thursday.

I'm very pleased. My 1st walk after surgery I noticed my limp was gone. Leg is much stronger feeling.

Still a bit sore but the pain meds help with that

Sounds good . Well take it easy (though I expect the Doc will tell you to walk on it), maybe play that reborn whilst sitting on the couch for a bit .

Going better. I'm completely off the pain medication and can move about much better. Had the follow up visit on Thursday and got stiches removed so I can now take showers. No driving until after Xmas.

Bad news is I still can't lift anything over 10lbs, so no guitar playing until next week.

By Jan 1 I will only have a 15 lb weight limit so I still plan on attending NAMM.

Glad to hear it's at least moving in the right direction, Ned!

Maybe you can get yourself one of those Cloud 9 Les Pauls at Namm
