There's another thread already to discuss the closure of the forum, but could I suggest that those of us who wish to keep in touch (assuming the forum does close) swap e.mail addresses via Private Messages?

Many of us would love to salvage the present forum, or (as a last resort) set up a replacement forum, but we need contact details for other key people. Over the next couple of weeks, let's contact each other, swap e.mail addresses, & make sure that we don't lose contact with the various people who could help to make sure that something is salvaged from the present mess.

Could I also suggest that we don't use this thread for debate about closure - we already have a thread for that.

Thanks.

Mike

I have utilized the PM function here (and on many forums) for various reasons.

It is a pain to constantly 'log in' to trade messages back & forth, especially when engaged in a 'deal' to either buy or sell.

It is much easier to directly email someone, without having a 'middle'

Please be sure that you have updated any software you utilize for virus protection, fire walls, etc., before sending anyone an email.
I'm sure we all want to stay trouble free ........................

Oh, come on! don't post your email addresses like that. Bots spider the net all the time to harvest emails and you are going to have tons of spam in your in-boxes.

Post your email addresses like this;

[email protected]

The "deletethis" is recognized by some bots so be creative.

The most safety way is to post your email address in an image.

BTW, this one is very easy to get in touch; h*t*t*p://jose.gs

Here some stuff in english; h*t*t*p://jose.gs/english-info/

I actually have a forum running there but unfortunately the interface is in spanish, sorry :oops:

I'm not too keen on posting my email address out in the forum as it's a surefire way to get spam. I'm registered on a bunch of other guitar forums (ultimate-guitar, the gear page, japanaxe, the bareknuckle pickups forum, musicradar, etc.) with the same name as I have here, so if anyone wants to contact me, they can PM me there. On Harmony Central I'm registered as Dave_Mc_2, as someone else got the Dave_Mc name... :lol:

EDIT: ^ yeah, exactly. I'm still not too keen on posting my email address, as it contains my full name, but yeah, if you are going to post it, don't make it easy for the spambots. :lol:

Great.... now I'll have to change my email (that's kinda why I suggested a PM if anyone wanted to keep in touch)

Hey Marcus! :D

No, you don't have to, just edit your message and write your email address as I suggested;

[email protected]

Spiders are out there but are no so fast. Do it now and there is nothing to worry about.

Done.... thanks brother.

Guys, I hadn't realised this forum was about to close. That's a shame - particularly as it's taken me 12 months to make my first posts :p.

Now, I've no idea what the forum owner has in mind, nor whether you already have alternative forum ideas in place, but I'm administrator for a fairly large on-line community (photocamel.com) and could quite easily set up a replacement forum for you all (or even transfer this forum including posts, members etc). I wouldn't be wanting to do site administration as there are no doubt plenty of better placed people on here to do that, but if ned or anyone else is interested then drop me a PM. If not, then sorry to see this valuable resource die but it does happen to us all eventually :-?.

I had not seen this post when I suggested in the "forum closing" post creating an email addy distribution list.... I understand the concerns re: bots and spam, but is there a way to build a dist list without subjecting it to such spiders?

well, it's been 33 hours since I posted my email addy here, and I haven't received the first bit of spider spam yet .....

do I have to eat a hit of acid before I start seeing things :lol: ...................

I have put up my secondary addy (gmail) in the other post, and really don't care if it gets hit if in fact that would happen.

Would anyone be interested in having a MIJdiscussion/@/gmxxxail.coxxxm created to email there addys to, that I would maintain and create a dist list for everyone?

You are not going to received spam in 33 hours because a harvester collected your email but it is a matter of time.

A bot or two could collect addresses this month, another bot the next month... your email address will appear on the database of some companies that will sell this information to another number of companies... and sooner or later you'll start to periodically receive emails advertising casinos, stupid hollidays in remote places or just telling that you have it short or simply unfunctional and that you need to buy viagra :lol:
