Hi there,
Looks like a fine Hard Puncher bass, all original, I'd guess circa 1984-87.
Body wood is ash or alder, neck is maple, the colour is Metallic Red (MR).
Hard Punchers are hard to date as they look the same from 1984 until at least 1989, possibly even longer but I haven't seen a PB50 in the later catalogues.
The glued on bit on the headstock is a bit of a shame and may possibly indicate a later model as the earlier ones explicitly stated "one piece neck"
The model no. and logo type is slightly confusing though, I thought the PB50 was a '64 model which should have "Hard Puncher" under "Tokai", not after.

I haven't seen that before on a Tokai, except for my SS, which has 2 bits glued on the bottom of the headstock.

thanks sir, but can you point out exactly "the glued on the headsstock" that you said. wheres that part sir? and whats the comparison between the earlier and later models? pardon me sir coz im still an amateur when it comes to specifications, and it makes me more interested about ur info's thnx a lot :)

In the pic of the headstock you can see a slightly darker area with a clearly defined edge above the A and E tuners which looks glued on, at least to me.
In other respects I should think the quality and playbility to be very similar to earlier versions although I haven't played every Hard Puncher.

ah ok i get it sir, but do i need to worry about that? :-?

And aside from that, what about the other parts of this bass sir, do you think that its still all legit/genuine/stock?

thanks for all your info's

You don't need to worry about it at all! It's purely cosmetic.
Your bass looks all genuine to me although you would have to take it completely to pieces to be 100% certain.

Here is my PB60 from (what I think 1983)

They look the same at a first look

Stickers are there

And here is the difference: On the left the PB60 and on the right a PB40 from 1981 (I think) note the screws!! The tuners are not changed on the pB60 cause there are no additional holes (well, it never had three screw tuners mounted)

I have also noticed that PB40 in general has 3 piece bodies while the PB60 has a 2 piece body.

I own an identical one, same colour and appointments. Mine's killer, I bet yours is, too.

Pretty sure i's an '84 based on the logo. by '85 the H/S shape was more angular.

Actually the headstock shape only changed in the US. The Fender-correct headstocks were supplied to the rest of the world into the 90's.
The registry is sadly not updated in this regard, however there are quite a few discussion threads on this subject.

This is the first I've ever heard of this.

Not to argue, just for my own interest, can you link me any of these discussions?

This is why it's so important that people add their location to their profile, yet so many members still fail to do this.

Check out my Hardpuncher in the Tokai Bass Forum under Tokai 198? Hardpuncher its a 50 but its all black with gold hardware, extremely nice bass!! my first Tokai too
