I'm on the hunt for an MIJ 335 clone. Tokai, Burny and Orville are all on my list. My preference is for an early'60s dot neck w/TOM and stoptail- red or tobacco-burst are the colors of choice. This is to be a 'player' and not sit in a collection, so good (not perfect) condition is preferred. Thanks for your interest...

sactown is sacramento ?
any dealer around there that sells tokai lately?

Thanks again for the photo links - beautiful guitars! Yes, Sactown is Sacramento, CA. I haven't seen a Tokai dealer here since the very late 70's. I'll keep looking - it took the better part of a year to find my Goldtop.

Are you looking for true clones (open book headstock) or are you willing to expand your search a bit. The reason I ask is that I stumbled across a 1977 Electra x410 locally and picked it up for less than $500. It's a 335 style body, but it has a fan headstock and triangle/diamond inlays. The quality and tone hangs with the other 335 guitars I've owned at multiples of the price (03 Tokai ES-120 and an 83 Gibson Dot Reissue). If you can get past the non-Gibson look of it, you might want to add it to your list. But make sure it's a 76 - 82. Mine's not for sale, but here are a couple of pics to show you what I'm talking about.

Currypowder, thanks for the pics. I am, as you guessed, looking for a clone - which is why I listed Tokai, Burny and Orville in the original post. I have an Orville LPS goldtop that's so close to the real deal it's scary, and I want a 335 along the same lines. :D.

I have a Tokai ES-175 (335 model). It's in as new condition but I can make some scratches if you want to.
Located in Europe though some probably not the best for you.
Try Digimart in Japan from used Tokais.
