I am looking at an '85 loverock with the serial No: 503**** should the third number be either 1 or 2 as it states in "how to date your Tokai"
Third number indicated production run 1=1st run early, 2=second run late in year
or do Tokai do more production runs in certain years or should I be suspicious?

Cheers, deddog

Hi, i guess you are looking at this guitar, right?

The serial number looks pretty ok to me for a '85 model, but I'm not shure about the "dimple" on the headstock. I wonder if they produced dimple headstocks as early as 1985? The only reference about the dimple headstock design I've found is here:

http://www.flyingvintage.com/gcmag/reborn.html

maybe someone else knows it more exactely!!..

here is a '85 with the standard headstock:

and here is another one (5027xxx):

maybe someone even removed (sanded) the dimple on "your" model!? compare the two headstocks!

The actual guitar is here,
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3727456432&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

I am new to ebay and even newer to Tokai, that combined with a suspicous nature (especially when cash is involved) caused me to err on the side of caution and consequently I was outbid.
If the guitar is pucker then someone got themselves a bargain.
The same seller has just listed another Tokai http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2384&item=3728939595 the description is similar to the one for the loverock and seems a little "poetic" what do you think?

Indeed, when this axe is a Love Rock from 1985, this looks like THE bargain! But the seller gives us not enough information about the guitar... so we'll never know.

best regards

TJ
