I'm trying to figure out the manufacture date for a modern Tokai Jazz Sound bass that I bought a few years back. Serial number is stamped on the neck plate beginning F followed by seven digits.
In general, I have had no luck figuring out where contemporary Tokai basses are sold or even manufactured, although I got the impression somewhere that they now manufactured in Korea.
I got lucky, the bass is actually very nice given the price. Comparable in quality to most MIM Fenders that I have handled, it is probably a copy of a 1964 Jazz Bass, sunburst with tortoise pickguard, chrome bridge and pickup covers, thumb rest below G string, rosewood fretboard with no skunk stripe.
I would be grateful to anyone who could point me toward information on whether and where these basses are sold today. I'll send a pic of the bass to show my gratitude.
