Nah..LOOKS like Richtone yes..but there's a Chinese fake site that use a similar type floor to photograph" Tokai",Gibson" etc..if I can find the site I'll post it up.
You ask how we know that's a fakai?
None of the MiC Tokai have a Made in China stamp like that and the serial is 8 digits long...the legit Tokai are 6 digit.

Really? Wow, if I was going to make a fake Tokai, I would fake an MIJ one!
Nobody said the Chinese were smart...just clever.

Is it? How can you tell?

Mike

Serial number. What is with the extra 50 on the end?

Made in China painted on. Should be a sticker, or nothing.

Pickup surrounds are wrong, ie too low.

Tuners are the wrong colour.

Tuner bushes are wrong.

No felt washers under strap buttons.

The back of the neck looks different to a Tokai where the flat back of the headstock blends into the neck profile. Too much of a "point" in the reflection. Could be the lighting though.

It is a fakai.

Jack position is also wrong.
Anyhow, AFAIK it is a legit UK MIC Tokai made from another Chinese subcontracter.
Different specs.! - different quality?

Prob. same model as in Peters post:

Is it me, or am I the only one who is worried about them making a fake of a copy, which is the poor relative of the copy?

Soon we'll have fakes of the fakais.

If togps is correct (& I would be surprised if he's wrong), it does suggest that Tokai are failing to give detailed specifications to the sub-contractors they are commissioning to produce their guitars in China. This worries me, & sounds like poor business practice. If an outside company is making a guitar to carry the Tokai name, Tokai should be taking great care to ensure that they are all up to the required standard - and that surely includes a standard type of serial number & the knobs etc. in the same place!

The Korean Tokais didn't have this sort of variation, as far as I know. I was under the impression that the reason the MIK Tokais were so good is that Japanese quality control staff kept a close eye on what was going out of the factory. Have Tokai stopped doing this now that production has moved to several different locations in China?
