If it were early 1980 model with those specs it would have fret edge binding as well, looks like a 2000 model to me, Really don't know why it would have a lacquered fret board.....

Perhaps it's a spelling mistake - does he mean "knackered fretboard"? That would explain it being cheap.

Now the same guitar is relisted as year 2000 model:

Hi Guys.

Newbie here, but I've been a long-time fan since the early days in the 80's.

(I currently have an LS75 in tobacco sunburst retrofitted with Grover Deluxe tuners and a Gibson "Standard" truss rod cover)

Anyway, on to the reason I just signed up:

I've seen this guitar relisted too and I quite fancied it, but just like you chaps I was confused by "Lacquered fretboard". I emailed the seller, and here's his reply courtesy of good old cut'n'paste:

"Hi ******
Tks for the info...The rosewood fretboard was professionally lacquered. I got this done because I an allergic to rosewood :( Makes it good for bending the strings without sticking. The guitar has got two coil taps to give some sweet extra sounds. It is a very nice guitar...Will be sad to see it go.
Best regards

Hmm. Not heard of anyone having lacquer applied to rosewood before. And coil taps? What model would that be? The seller seems like a nice enough chap, and answered promptly and politely, so I'd put the discrepancies down to lack of specialist knowledge rather than any misleading or malicious intentions.

May be worth a punt for someone, but the lacquer on the 'board has pretty much put me off to be honest.

For me, the great thing about a rosewood board is the feel of rosewood under my fingers. It's lacquered maple boards that I find sticky, not rosewood. Each to their own I suppose. But that's the first time I've heard of anyone being allergic to rosewood.....

:-?

Maybe not, but given that I paid ?330 for my immaculate LS75 I'm a bit reluctant to pay another ?50 for this one and then start messing about with the fretboard.

Necks are never the same once you've done anything to them other than just maintain the factory finish. If it was "Buy-It-Now! for a couple of hundred quid then fair enough, but I think I'll leave it where it is for that price. :-?
