Is that really an '84? Never seen one with a top like that.

Hmmmm...

in my books LS100s (I've never seen a 1984 btw) should be 58. This one is a 59. 18 degree headstock, short lip on the neck, "soft angling" on the bridge.

Hi Mark

I had a 1982 SS70 that had a D stamp as well, and a Tokai specialist guy with information about it, mentioned that the D means for export to Germany.
But, I don't think that is quite right, and I am positive that something is wrong with that explanation, most likely because of the translation.
I have since seen a D stamped on some Lesters as well, and it could be that D actually means Deluxe or Domestic.

And a +1 for Gottfried, he did post that D would mostly likely mean, Domestic, I should have listened to him.

Edit - the Tokai specialist guy is from Japan.

The finishing of the guitar is sub standard in my opiniion. Especially the fretboard trapezoid fittings are not so nice.

Hi. The "D" stamp can't be for domestic cos the number of guitars that come over here from the japan domestic market and few have the "D".

The guy who got me in to tokai's had a "D" stamp breezy which he said meant it was a custom ordered model and that it was stamped to ensure it found its way to the correct purchaer via the "D" sellers in tokai, the "D" meant immediate dispatch as opposed to warehousing..

I remember him saying this info was from tokai.

Is Peter Mac on the case of the "D".
