I'm curious about these two es-335 type guitars, old tokai es-100 and es-150 are amazing for sure, but I'd like to know how orville by gibson reissues rate against these, as I'm going to have to make a decision between one.

thanks

The OBG reissues are only certain solid body models LPS-57C, LPC-57B, LPS-59R and SG-61R made between late 1992 and 1995. I'm not aware of any OBG ES-335 reissues.

The OBG Semi Acoustics and the Orville Semi Acoustics were all made by Terada (G letter serial for OBG's and J letter serial for Orvilles) who are Semi Acoustic specialists and have been making Semi Acoustic Gretsch's and Epiphones from the late 80s/early 90s and other brands before that as well.

The Tokai Semi Acoustics are made equally as well as Terada so I suppose your choice would just come down to personal taste as there are no real issues with build quality from Terada or Tokai.

One of the trademarks of the Reissue series mentioned above is fret-edge binding... I have definitely seen an OBG ES-335 with FEB. It was listed from the same seller in Japan whose ebay name escapes me at the moment (English guy named John) that I purchsed my 59 reissue from. It had a beautiful birdseye maple top in tobacco burst. There are certainly OBG 335's with all of their RI traits ('57 classics, nitro, FEB, long tenon), I just dont know if they are called "reissues".

"mijguitars" is the seller I was trying to remember... kind of a hard name huh?
