Les Paul Copies for under 1k euro

Post by SuperSwede » Mon Aug 21, 2006 5:38 am

What les paul copies for under 1k euro is worth looking into?

I found an Orville les paul for about 700 euro but I'm not sure if its the real thing. Shouldn't it be written "by gibson" under the logo?
http://www.nysse.com/lagerbilder/orville.html

Edit: I figured out that the Orvilles with japanese pickups don't have the "by gibson". But my question still. Is it worth the money and what other brands is worth looking into?

Check out Edwards guitars

Post by mr_fender » Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:29 am

I've got an Edwards LP-90LTS coming my way from Japan. Edwards is a Japan only branding of ESP guitars. They are true to Gibson specs and use high quality materials and worksmanship.

1 piece mahogany bodies, 1 piece mahogany necks, thick flame maple tops, lacquer finishes, good quality Gotoh deluxe hardware and stock USA Seymour Duncan pickups. Mine has a '59 in the neck and a JB in the bridge. Reviews I have read are all rave, so we'll see when it comes in this week. I'll let you know how I like it.

You can check them out here:
http://www.espguitars.co.jp/edwards/index.html

I got mine new with an ESP gigbag for 85,000 yen (about $750 US) including EMS insured shipping from Japan.

They also have some nice Strat and Tele copies too if your interested.
PEACE!

Thanks for the tip. I thought there was some kind of lawsuit against them.

$750 including shipping and insurance is crazy cheap. I think the costed about $1300 when they sold them in Sweden a couple of years ago. I will check them out!

Hi,

I just got my Edwards Les Paul on Saturday and I can't believe how good
it is. I for sure will change Pickups as I don't like the SD Jeff Beck and also the SH1 seems to be too muddy for my taste, but the guitar is just great !
What I also like about it, is how light it is, about 3.7kg.

Where did you order it from, out of curiosity?

I got mine from Guitar Baka in Japan. Their website is:

http://www.guitar-baka.com

It's all in Japanese, so I had to have a co-worker (who is from Japan) help me translate. A little more work, but their price was much lower.

http://www.guitarjapan.com

This is another site that is nicer and in English, but their prices are a bit higher too.

Check them out.
PEACE!

Ok, their price (Guitar Baka) looks like what I'd expect to pay from Ishibashi (80% of list), but I haven't asked Ishibashi yet about it.

Thanks :)

Ya might want to change out the electronics first before shelling out hard earned money for new pickups. The stock pots, switch, wiring, and capacitors in the Edwards LP's aren't of the highest quality (they're adequate though) and it would probably prove to be the best improvement to make to the guitar. Heck, it's really the only thing about these guitars that they really skimp on, but it's rather common with Japanese guitars so it's not surprising. Check out RS Guitarworks for some great upgraded electronics: www.rsguitarworks.com

Anyway, back on topic. I've had my Edwards E-LP-105LTS/RE since the beginning of this year and I'm still completely enamored with it. I bought mine through Ishibashi as at the time they were the cheapest, accepted credit cards, and were just downright nice and great to work with. For the money I don't think there's another LP-style guitar out there that can touch what ESP is putting out through their Edwards line.

Here's mine for reference (click pics to enlarge):

this site is not bad for LP copies and Gibbies too:

www.orangeguitar.com

their shipping charges are very reasonable.
