The lollipop-look is gone now! The new look of my ?04 EDWARDS E-LP-92 SD/P Goldtop (called MARILYN):

THANX for your compliments!

I used this 3M 'reconditioning-sponge' (Pic 1) for car paint. It took some serious time but the result is great. I don?t know the correct name of the product, a nice guy from an auto body shop gave it to me for free. The finish looks awesome now and feels even better! I?d describe the 'new' look as 'vintage/bacon-like laquer-finish without checking' . I used the same method on my ORVILLE LP junior and on a ?96 ?piphone Les Paul. Both looked like new, but I don?t like the high-gloss plastic-cover poly-finish:

Very interesting!
It would be nice to see pics of the guitars before and after work done and under the same camera angle/light conditions to see the difference.

In the case of the ORVILLE & ?piphone LP?s they do not exist. I started modding the ORVILLE LP Junior the day she arrived from Japan. Some photographs of the ?pi exist but I have no scanner.
This is a pic of the unmodded EDWARDS E-LP-92 SD/P, taken by former owner BigEd:

Nice checking technique.... what did you use?

First of all I studied hundreds of pics of original ?50s Les Pauls as well as the images of Historic Makeover and RS-Guitarworks. To realize the checking I used the 'Tom Murphy'-checking-techniqes with a scalpel:

(Video-block of 7 clips!)

I really think you did great job
Can you tell me what you think of Barefuss pups in general? Build quality, tone?

Thanx-a-lot!

Next steps: Some greening on the top, fine checking on the headstock-faceplate, sides & back. I?ll also apply some checking on the body-back &-sides, the 'non-glossy' neck will stay as perfect as it is.

Regards,
Ralf

THANX, jacco!

I?m a true fan of DAVID BARFUSS pickups! The 'Greeny-Blues'-Set is my favorite PAF-type set. They?re perfect for my 32 year old FRESHER Les Paul. Bridge & neck-PU have all the attributes a good PAF should deliver. The 'out-of-phase'-option is the i-dot of this awesome set. Each PU is handmade first quality, absolutely perfect craftmanship! My custom-made ?52-reissue P-90s set is made considering some guidelines (I sent some tone-examples of Sean Costello...), the result is KILLER! He nailt it! The complete D.BARFUSS-Stuff is on the high-quality/medium price-range. The price performance ratio is PERFECT!

I'm impressed and curious.

Could you explain ?
Where can I find this sponge?
What took so long?

@ Max The Dog: THANX!!

@ cosmitron 2: Use the finest you can find, use it soft & wet with vortexes/circling action. Inspect within the process.

GOOD LUCK! Please show some pics of the result!

Ralf
