Hi guys

I have started to look for a nice LP type of guitar. I was thinking of paying around 1200 bucks. What can I get for that sum?

These are some candidates:

Tokai - LS-80 or better.
Greco - egf1000 or better
Bacchus - dont know their modelnames but I heard they are good
ObG - Some of the reissue models

Any other brands you could recommend?

Regards

Peter

Edwards ELP-130LTS, comes in at under 1000 US by my calculations:

FgN NCLS-10R, roughly the same price:

No, I don't work for Kurosawagakki, wish I did though!

FgN are made by Fujigen. I've been eyeing up their Les Paul copies lately. They are not 100% dead copies, missing the pickup selector ring and having a slightly different headstock. Here's another of them on j-guitar:

and here's one of their higher-spec ones with Lollar pickups:

At current exchange rates 130,000 yen is 1,327.00 US.

Yep, but street price (and price on the link I listed) on the Edwards 130 is just under 90,000 Yen = roughly $US950. Bargain in my books.

What you need to be telling people when they are looking for MIJ guitars though is that the Edwards are all made in China and are only assembled in Japan, this would make a difference to me and a lot of other people as well. I am not saying they are not still good guitars but just like the new Burny guitars they are made in China. I have also dealt with Kurosawagakki and their shipping was quite expensive compared to what i usually pay for guitars out of Japan and also in 2 recent emails i sent to them they gave me 2 different prices for shipping, {both to dear} that is why i use my buyer for everything that comes out of Japan. It also pays to shop around as i only paid 650 US for my custom order gold top Tokai and it is all Honduras mahogany long tenon and nitro. Actually i have Tokai Greco Burny and Bacchus guitars and have only once paid more than $1000 aussie dollars for one and it is one of 6 ls 180's made in 2002.

It seems likely to me that the Edwards are only assembled in Japan as you say, not entirely made there. Otherwise I don't see how they could offer so much guitar for the money. You're still getting Japanese quality control though and top-notch components.

Also, Peter didn't say he was looking for a Japanese guitar

1200 US dollars

And I actually prefer the Japan made ones. Not saying Korea och China cant make good guitars but for future resale value I think Japanese guitars are easier to sell.

Awesome guitar for U1200 us only thing is it has a slightly different headstock.

If that is a similar spec to an LS380, but with a Gold Top finish, get me a neat dozen.

Hi Peter, it has a 2 piece honduras mahogany back, long tenon neck joint alu tail piece and nitro finish, only problem is that it is a one off.. :wink: {neo select}

Is the FgN related to the History guitars? I see they have the same marking on the trussrod, "circle fretting system"

I saw that one Mick, really nice but not my favourite color. If it had been sunburst or tobacco it would be heading to sweden by now.

I think History and FGN are both made by Fujigen.

No mention of History but FGN are there.

I've read a bit about Edwards' being "made in china" and "assembled in japan".

If this is true, can anyone answer the following questions please?
1. where would the fret inlays be inserted?
2. where are the metal frets applied to the neck?
3. where is the neck set into the body?
4. where is the nut glued and cut?

I guess if all those answers are "japan" (which i really don't know, but want to), then whether the wood is cut in china on a CNC machine or in japan on a CNC machine, would it really matter? This skill lies in the assembly, all machines do the same work provided the software is the same and the drill bits they use are decent.

OK i received a reply, There are 600 Edwards guitars produced a month in China, they are not all produced in the same factory, in fact they come out of quite a few different factories. They are "finished" as in painted in China so i would assume that the necks are set and the guitars are basically complete baring electronics. Hope this helps.
