Okay, so I purchased this guitar from a small vintage shop in Texas when I was a teenager. All they "knew" about the axe was that it was a Tokai-made Robin circa 1983. I can't find info about it anywhere and I would love to know more about it. I love the guitar, it just feels like a lost soul. The headstock says "Robin" --definitely put on with a sticker -- and much of the writing on the stock is worn off. The serial number is 0014220 and is on the neck plate (so ? who knows if it's really the original serial no?)

The tuners AND the bridge both say Tokai

Any ideas?

The guys at Robin guitars did do some headstock rebranding using actual Tokai guitars. Now i can't say if yours is one, could very well be as a lot of things point to it. Can you give us photo's of the routing ?? there should be codes in there if it is a tokai made guitar, as well as on the butt end of the neck.

Cheers

Great guitar.Rebadged Robin Tokai Springy.Tokai made some of Robin`s original design guitars too, which where endorsed like Tokai by S.R.V.

Hi guys,

If what you say about Robin is true, then this would be a re-badged 1980 ST-60 going by the features shown in the pics.

Serial number is from 1980
Hardware is chrome
Round string tree
Poly finished body

The route stamps should be in the front pickup cavity and say 7=8 BB X or similar, end of neck should have an Allen key socket and matching 7=8 stamp.
Pickups should be grey bobbined 'E' stamp.
Posting pics of these features would be a great help.

Overall, a very fine guitar for 34 years

In the neck pickup cavity there is marker writing of "1 3" and under it is a stamp "8=" something??? along with what looks like BB

It has aged nicely. The frets are at a point where the decision will have to be made on if the neck is worth a refret though.

I going to assume '81 st-60 based on the "+" truss rod?

Odd part is on the Robin Lovers forum it is commented that the only colors ordered were cream and sunburst.
