Hello everybody

I bought a sigma Guitar that is exactly like the one in the link below a few years ago but have never been able to find out any info on it.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170501307539&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123#ht_500wt_1154

This link says its made by Tokai which is a new bit of info for me, ive asked if he knows anymore but all he knows is in the ad!

I've tried the sigma site, and the martin one, the blue orion guitar book and also guitar forums to no success.

I've had a look on the internet and in 3 years i've only seen 4 other pictures on the web of the same guitar.

If anyone can give me any info on it, like what its based on, when it was built and by who, its value and all that kinda stuff i would be unbelievably grateful

many thanks

Hi, I am not a specialist on acoustics. But: I own a 72 Sigma MIJ and an 80 Anniversay Sigma MIJ. Both are labeled Sigma on the headstock and have an imprint inside "Sigma Made for Martin". To my understanding both were built by Tokai.

I also had some Cats-Eyes passing through my studio, which were supposed to come from the same building at Hamamatsu. I doubt it very much. The build quality was completely different.

The Sigmas are still in the studio because the players like them. The cats are gone.

Specifically the 80 has a hard, deep V-neck and gives a dark, precise sound. Very easy to record. The 72 is "boomy" and a bit like an 0-0. I usually keep her in the background during recording (min 3 meters from the main guitar).

I paid Euro 100.-- for the 72 and Euro 225.-- for the 80.--. They are very good players and probably the best value for a "close to Martin.

Don't sell her. You probably got a good one. And if you don't like her any studio around you might. If the serial is 5 digits you might own a real Martin. They had a few built with the Sigma logo in 71-73. Basically a D48.

Cheers, Rup

Nice discussion! I just joined the forum. I've been a Sigma nut for years and only recently realized they were built by Tokai.

The anniversary guitar above was called the D10 for the 10 year anniversary of the company. I believe it was also the last of the solid back & side builds. Honduran mahogany. I have had 2 of them. Great guitars.
