I was considering bidding on a tokai reborn on ebay
see it here: http://cgi.ebay.com/1978-Old-Tokai-LP-Reborn-Standard-Made-in-Japan-H-C_W0QQitemZ320091579957QQcategoryZ2384QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The seller, " hisashi0731". States that the guitar is not original, then a bidder asks him what is not original. He sais he doesn't know. I want to know what a fair price is for this guitar, given that the guitar is not all original (and we don't know what's been changed) I know, no easy task, but the guitar is absolutely beautiful!

+ got the case
+ cool color
+ it's old!
+ pickups & tuners look original

- 3 piece top
- ls50 is the low model
- difficult to understand the "originality" issues...
- pickguard is missing

From my pespective, $800 + big shipping is a pretty strong price for such a guitar.

Nice color.....

As noted, LS50 is a lower end version - looks like it has a 3 piece top but even a lower end Reborn is a good guitar relatively speaking.

What's it worth? Whatever someone will pay for it.....

Hi!
First time poster, I'm the new owner of this '78 Reborn. It just arrived on Tuesday. Very nice sounding and playing guitar. Heavier then a boat anchor but that's a Les Paul for you.
I'm not sure what's not original, I think he put that in there in case a minor part such as a pot or pickup selector switch is not original and the buyer objects. Tuners (for sure) and pickups/bridge (as far as I can tell) are original.
I got it for $939 USD and I definately have no regrets.
I recommend the buyer, the transaction was smooth as could be.

i am sorry but its a silly question ...whats it worth ..obviously more than you think as you didnt win it... it this case its worth 1075US +shipping and import taxes ..(if applicable).. the next one will be worth $1000 or whatever it goes for ..the simple fact is that ebay is an auction ..and whoever thinks its worth the most will win it...simple...

I did win it
It 'sold' for $1075 as item number 320091579957 (I was the losing bidder)
That deal fell through and it was relisted as 320098828282 which I won for $939

Thanks Roger

Do you know what the name of the color it is?
Here are two pictures from the ebay listing:

and two from my cellphone camera (not good pics but you can see the color has less red then in the ebay ones)

I assume it is 'Brown Sunburst' as the LS-50 (according to tokairegistry) came with either:
CS=Cherry Sunburst, BS=Brown Sunburst, GT=Gold Top, BB=Black

It seems to be like OS or brown sunburst ... 8) 8)

But - I'm not sure ... :-? ... the colors change over the years ...

Ask togps - he'll know it exactly !!!

Roger

I think that this guitar is 100%ORIGINAL if my memory is certain.
It is not written it is perfect original in the list.

It is because the explanation is requested up to one screw.

HISASHI

What ever someone is willing to pay ...

... assuming this to be a correct auction, which is not so likely I think ...
