Dear Guys,
Can any of you please help date or identify my Breezysound. Its candy apple red with 6 digit serial number on neck plate (229135). Tokai is stamped on the tailpeice. However, I'm not sure about the maple neck... Tokai is spelt out in block letters rather that spaghetti or script logos...

I'm new to this site, so I'm not sure I can post the photos here. DO I need to post them to another web site and then post the links in here?

Kind regards

All block letter logos are from 1983.

Thin spaghetti logos are used to the end of 1982.
Thicker script logos are 1984 and later.

Pics of each type are posted here: http://www.tokairegistry.com/tokai-info/tokai-fender.html

6 digit serial # models (from 1982 on) are designated to generally resemble 1966 to 1970 Tele model specs.

Dear Guys,
Thanks for your help so far. The images of my guitar as follows;

ANy further assistance you can offer (particularly the originality of neck/head/decal) would be much appreciated. Truss rod adjustment is at body end..

Kind regards

John

As John said, that's a 1983 block logo TE model.
The 6 digit serial has me puzzled somewhat as the only 6 digit tele should be a TE-200 which it is clearly not. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

It's not a metallic red finish right? It looks like the WR finish though which was only used ont TE-70 and 120 models. I'd say it is a 1983 TE-70.

The block logo typeface is wrong, it's sans serif not a serif font as it should be. The size and positioning is incorrect and the breezysound text is too big and incorrectly positioned too. The decals are not original.

This does not mean the guitar is not what you think it is, however. It may be that the decal was removed at some point (a very popular thing to do in the 80's) and someone has attempted to re-instate it.

Thank you all for your assistance. I have to sell the guitar (which I really like) along with some others... what do you think is a reasonable price to ask for it?

Kind regards

John

I think it would help if we could date the instrument - if we could see pics of the innards and stamps etc, we might know a little more about it.

This is the guitar,, so it's in Australia? Thought all block logo Tokai's went to the UK.

TE-70 didn't have a bound body. It did have 3 saddles and yours has 6 so most likely a TE-50.

Hi guys,
I've seen photos of this guitars innards and it is sporting 2 SD Antiquities. Has matching codes in control cavity and neck base but the colour code was CS instead of MR.
I would guess the seller imported it from the UK at sometime as I personally know that block logo Tokais were never sold new on the Australian market.

Lastly all TE-70's had body binding. That's what made them TE-70.

Hi Guys,
I finally got round to taking my Tokai apart. The markings on the end of the neck appear to say TF 13 NM, see pic;

Also, in the control cavity there appears to be a label that says something like 2 = 11MB Z;

Any other info you can help with would be much appreciated... Do you think the neck is a genuine Tokai? I would like to sell this guitar (amongst others) soon...

Kind regards

John

The neck code is 7=13 and it's a genuine Tokai neck.
It doesn't match with the body code though. We are having a debate atm about matching codes and we actually don't know if the need to match. Although previous consencus was that they should to be all original.

The colour code is MB which is metallc blue so it looks like it has been refinished.

Yes photo looks like MR to me as well - though the OP has read it as MB too...maybe he should have another peak!

This has to be a Partscaster.

The serial number is from 1987, SN 229135.

Six Digit Serial Numbers With 2xxxxx 1986 1987

The neck code has an = symbol which is much earlier, pre 1985.

The decal is unlike what we are used to seeing. Likely fake.

Can't see if that is an = or a - in the body code, but in addition to the other stuff the numbers are different 7 = 13 and 2 = 11 or 2 - 11 MR (not a deal breaker on its own, but in addition to the other stuff seems troubling).

All together it seems that someone cobbled together parts from 2 or 3 guitars and tried to pass it off as a block logo Breezy.

It seems like you have a body from a TE50MR ( 6 saddle bridge) made between 1982 and 1985 (if it has the = sign). You have a pre 1985 neck, and a 1987 neck plate...
