LS125? Or should it be LS135?

Post by iidoido » Fri Mar 05, 2010 6:17 am

Hey everyone,
I am going to buy a Tokai from ebay.
I found a great deal but I am not really sure if it's accurate and OK.
Please, you tell me, the experts what do you think.
Here is it:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Tokai-LS-125-Violin ... 500wt_1182

The thing is, that I've never heard about the LS125 model.
I do have heard about the LS135. But not about the LS125.
Is there anything special I should know about? What can you tell me about it? Is there any difference between the LS125 and the LS125?
The guy told me it's been made in December 2009 if it helps.

Please help me about it. It's a lot of money.
Thanks

Same guitar. Model numbers change often due to price increases

HI iidoido welcome to the forum,

seems ok to me I own an LS125F and they are a great guitar as are all Japanese made Tokai, If it is an 09 model it should be an LS135F unless it was orderd before the model number change, (don't get me started on that one   ) the only thing is that he states that it is a solid mahogany back, and it is solid mahogany, but it is a 2 piece back were the description makes it sound like a 1 piece, other than that it all looks lagit, and the price is good. Oh and it has a very thin veneer top.
these are better than the gibby standards and cheeper

I didn't understand you well.
Does it matter if it's 2 pieces or just 1 piece?
And he told me that it's a December 2009 model. So is this LS135 or LS125?
Is it written on the guitar or something? Or the guitar only has the serial number?
I'm going to spend here 1000$, so please be specific and accurate.
And how this model compares to the LS150 and LS95?

Thanks!

The LS-125 and 135 are the same guitar, the higher model number only means that the 125 {125,000 yen} had a price rise 135 { 135,000 yen}. It is exactly the same guitar.

In my opinion the 2 piece back makes no noticeable difference, unless you have hearing like superman, (others might disagree with this).
If it is dec 09 it should be an LS135F, (tokai model numbers change when the price in yen increases so an 07/08 LS125F changed to LS135F sometime in 08 but now is an LS140F this year, and they are the exact same spec guitars.
The model number is not written on the guitar anywhere, you can only tell by the serial # and the specifications of the guitar. If it is a dec 09 model the serial# will start with 09xxxxx
Models with an F after the number are flame tops, such as LS135F.
Models don't have an F are plain tops such as LS150, but now is a LS160.
If they have a Q they are quilt tops.
