id a Tokai Love Rock

Post by NordicElectric » Wed Sep 21, 2022 6:06 am

Hi Guys,

Need a bit of help identifying this Love Rock guitar that is offered up for sale locally. TRC is throwing me off, and the serial is confusing me further. Where was it made and is it a year 2000 or 1980? Serial is 0010837. https://lensdump.com/a/Rd26H

What would a fair price for both parties be?

Thank you!

Looks to me like a 1980 LS80 BS with the original case.

S/N 0010837

It's in overall good condition for a 42 year old guitar, but it has some mods (3 screw TRC, tail, bridge?, rail bridge pickup).

Fret edge binding with the plain top makes it an LS80.

As an LS80, it should have a one piece mahogany back, one piece mahogany neck, 18 degree headstock angle, solid maple cap, rosewood fretboard and lacquer finish. PCB circuit board in control compartment.

Neck pickup looks like it might be the original Goto PAF.

Bridge looks like it is set pretty high. I would ask about that and make sure the neck is ok.

The mods are reversible except for the holes they drilled for that weird TRC. Nice guitar.

For comparison with another LS80. Note TRC.

Repro TRC, bridge, and tail all available at Faber Germany.

Correct TRC might cover the holes?
