    Where to buy Tokai

I'm wanting a Tokai Es-120, or current equivalent, and want to buy online, but haven't been able to find sites that have Tokai guitars. I'd found them a few years ago, but can't find them now. I have a good dealer in Japan for Edwards, and if I go the Edwards route for the ES gutiar, that dealer...

How to check Love Rock model

I bought an LS-80 recently that I'm learning to love, I hope. I'd read that the way to tell the model was a sticker with the model should be on the back of the headstock, or in the electronics cavity in the body. I checked, but it's in neither place. I checked the serial number with the registry...

I just bought a guitar I've never even touched.

thanks again Hoss! I think a call in to Jim Wagner may be in order. Hope you are liking your tokai, it's a great looking guitar...

So if I want that Dickey betts. Mick Taylor cleaner (only slightly dirty) fat sound, do you think the Darkbursts would be good for me? Or are they really made for the Duane, Warren Haynes wooly sound?

Thanks Hoss! The clips of the Darkbursts all have that wooly duane sound, which I love, but... can they do the cleaner, fat dickey betts and mick taylorish sound? How would that work? Do you need to roll the volume back on your guitar when you don't want the wooly warren haynes sound?

Thanks a million hoss, nice playing by the way! You know what I think I'm realizing is that I'd like the pickups I get to be able to do that warm duane thing, but I like a punchier, slightly cleaner Mick Taylor to Dickey Betts kind of sound. Warren Haynes is a great player no doubt, but I...

I just bought a guitar I've never even touched.

Hoss, that is a beauty all right, congrats man! If my Love Rock works out (jury's still out, but I'm hoping) I'm thinking of putting in some Wagner Darkbursts. Anybody have any experience with Wagner pickups in their Tokais? In particular the Darkbursts, or maybe the Crossroads or Fillmores...

I just bought a guitar I've never even touched.

I don't think there was any tax for the import, Hoss. Is that possible? I took it to the local shop I like and am getting it set up. The bridge saddles almost all had to be all the way closest to the pickup, so the bridge may have to be moved. First we're gonna find out if that's neccessary...

I just bought a guitar I've never even touched.

Mine showed up as well. Looks great, plays, uh, ok. I'm taking it in for a setup, have the tech give it the once over. I played it a little last night and ran into a stompbox problem. I've got a collection of great overdrives which I've collected all while just playing a strat. They do TOTALLY...

It IS nerve-wracking. Wondering whether the mail order bride will be damaged en route, and whether she'll be in shape when she gets here, as beautiful as in her pictures, or instead has spent the last year eating donuts and bonbons and looks like Kirstie Alley.

    Ball of confusion

Thanks for all the info and encouragement, guitar gods. I'll be learning more and more about Tokais as I go along of course, but I'm wondering - where would a mid-nineties LS-80 sit in the heirarchy of Tokai models/quality etc. I've read a few things recently saying LS-80s are entry level...

Ian et al. Where do the little quotes under the poster's name come from? I didn't put mine in (though it's a good one). Are they randomnly generated or something?

thanks whitehall. Nice axe, hoss! It's a beauty. Nothing better than a good looking older sister, I always say. Congratulations! I'll see about those Crossroads. By the way, has anyone tried the wager Fillmore pickups? In theory that should be the set I want, but everyone always raves about the...

Thanks everyone. And thanks again Ian et al for all your advice and patience with all my questions, I really appreciate it very much. I've got my fingers crossed and will let you know how it looks and plays once it gets here. Anybody familiar with the pickups that would be in this model? I...

    Ball of confusion

Sorry, that's why I've been asking so many questions. If the MIJ/MIK experts here on the site thought the guitar looked good for quality, then I was trying to find out if the pickups in the guitar would be hotter, or more vintage sounding. The listing just says 'Original Tokai Humbucker'. My...
