Hi all,
Apart from Fender, Tokai seems to be the only major guitar company to offer Paisley finishes.
Looks like wallpaper to me, with clearcoating on top. How is it done, does it influence the guitar's resonance, and is it durable?
Regards, Robert
Hi all,
every now and then I see a Hondo guitar from their "Professional" series offered dead cheap. Some of these guitars, namely the Fender copies, are said to have been made by Tokai in Japan. At least from 1979 to 1981, when Hondo-owner IMC decided to have all their guitars produced in...
Yes, mister Eggle did build amps as well! Recently got one. It's called "Wave Modulator" and features a 60/120 watt Class A/D amp with a 12" speaker in a combo box. Flame-maple front gives the amp a classy look. Here's what it looks like:
Anyone here have an Eggle amp as well?
Cheers...
Hi all,
recently purchased a 1979 Shergold Custom Masquerader six-string in good original condition. Here it is:
Not the best-looking guitar in the universe, but lots of character plus excellent sound and playability. These were built by the joiners that had previously built guitars for...
Hi all,
since this part of the forum is described as not guitar related, I thought I'd open a thread dedicated to other Japanese products. I have a couple of those, like the famous Panapet portable radio from Panasonic, e. g.:

How...
I've one of the little fellows described here:
https://www.matrixsynth.com/2018/08/vintage-casio-as-110-keyboard-amplifier.html
Very nice amp with reverb, astonishingly convincing sounding also with guitar. However, no information available, not even at Casio Worldwide. Staff there seems to...
Hi all,
stumbled upon a Tokai fold-out brochure from around 1986/87 which shows guitars from the MAT- and Custom Edition series as well as then new Hamers like the Steve Stevens I or Chaparral. Here's two screenshots.
Looks as if Tokai had a distribution deal with Hamer for Japan at that...
Found the following description of Tokai's "L.White"-pickups on a Japanese website:
"Tokai original pickup that was used on Tokai guitars from the 1980s to the 90s.
Developed by thoroughly researching and analyzing vintage pickups and optimizing them for Tokai guitars.
In order to maintain the...
Hi all,
on Russian website music-inside.ru I've found reference to a 1980ies' Custom Edition model I've never seen before. Here's a link:
http://music-inside.ru/images/guitars/335-tokai-custom-edition/01-m.jpg
The description doesn't say which model it is, it's just called "Custom Edition" and...
Hello all,
being a Tokai forum rookie I'd like to introduce myself. I'm not into brand fetish, but I like a good instrument when I see and play one. Mainly into electric guitars, synthesizers, amps and recording equipment from the 1980ies which some consider to be vintage today.
I've recently...
