Me neither. Apparently its from the mid/late 60s and has an 800cc engine, that's all I know.
So Toyota's equivalent of the Honda S800 coupe? Bet it's got a wonderfully revvy engine.

I worked up to the NSX, via a Fiat X1/9, then the supercharged MR2 shown above and then the NSX. It's a great car, perhaps not as quick as the R33 Skyline I used to have, but more of an occasion, and I prefer the feel of NA engines over blown engines. This dark green one is a targa - a little softer...

Another Japanese car addict signing in! :) That '70s Celica is such a lovely car. I was in Tokyo last month and hoped to see some old cars, but they are rarer there than here (it seems). My last Toyota was a not-quite-so-old JDM import: http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/445/justarrived01.jpg Superc...

That photo must be from the Kanamara Matsui festival. An explanation here: http://www.fest300.com/festivals/kanamara-matsuri

Curiously, it's not at all sexual.

I'll be off to Japan in 5 weeks time. Strange place. Looking forward to it. :D

Neck repairs can be done really well by a skilled luthier. But...

IMHO a neck repair on anything other than a collectible vintage/rare guitar ought to cut its value by at least 1/3rd compared to an identical undamaged guitar. So I'd want a very good price on a busted/repaired Tokai.

solid or veneer top? It looks like a solid top but I'm not 100% sure. In the right light you can see the wood grain of the pickup route continue up to the top surface. There is a very thin layer on top that looks to be be just the clear finish. Are there pics of a known veneer that I can look at an...

No - I have no woodwork skills! :D It was a Hohner G3T that I had converted by a great luthier.

Sorry - didn't want to derail your MSV thread. Mine's also an '84, and I think Tokai must have missed the peak of Schenker's popularity. I think they only made these for a year or two?

Actually, there was a Japan-only dealer-specific Gibson V with MS b/w paint job. I've only ever seen it in the original Japanese advert (in a Mooks book) and if I find one, I'll buy it first and tell y'all about it later. :) The Tokai MSV is a lot of fun. I did see a Greco MSV during the same Tokyo ...

Looks just like mine (which I snagged from a shop just outside Tokyo). It does have a pretty thin neck, for sure. On mine the knobs are more discoloured: http://www.firstmail.com/misc/TFV60MSfront1.jpg I'm pretty sure that poor old Me(n)tal Mickey never made a penny out of these unofficial Japanese ...

That was Leo's company. G&L started 80, 81? I think. Even though I think, but am not sure, that CBS bought the rights to everything in 1965, Leo might have retained some design / patent rights. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I have a real early G&L 1000 bass. It has the "lawsuit headstock". Yes, ...

40000 yen for a set-neck guitar (relatively labour-intensive) that's made in Japan in 2004 seems suspicously low to me.

Isn't 2004 a bit early for MiC?

More likely to be MiK, I'd have thought (like some of the cheaper LP-alikes).

I just took the Chuo Line from Tachikawa to Ohachanomizu. Lots of nice shops, lots of nice Fenders and Gibsons, very few Tokais, and so far, I've found only new Tokais, no used ones. Taking a break at The Golden Arches to fortify me for more exploration. I was there last year and saw lots of new To...
