OK, continuing with this link from my other thread re Hiro's current offering http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7338060587&indexURL=2#ebayphotohosting . What appears to have happened (my guess) is that Burny/Fernandes were making their own Les Paul guitars quite happily until about ...

OK, thanks Skywoolf, I?ll reply on the other thread where you have the pics ? this is interesting topic, but has potential for argument & some rash claims (at least that?s what happened last time lol) ? anyway, ?continued under your other thread? :-?

Yes, that's the point ... after 83 all those guitars have very similar if not identical Tokai logo, right up to present day. In summary - AFAIK there are 4 distinct logos, but only first 3 allow you to date the guitar, ie ? 1- very thin script ?7-okai spaghetti? logo used on first Springys 1978-82 2...

Inked SN's & Burny connection

This is interesting http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7338060587&indexURL=2#ebayphotohosting . Don?t know if seller (?Hiro?) knows this info from his own research, or if he?s partly copying our old discussions from this forum (he uses same criteria that we emphasised, eg double-ring...

How does the decal tell you it was made in 1984 :o ?

Ian.

PS - afaik, letter "L" + 5 digits on neck plate only tells you it's later than the Springysound Strats made from 1978 to 82 (which had 7-digit date coded SN on neckplate, ie same SN code as gibson copies).

Always fancied a 335 (or similar), played a couple but never actually owned one, so have to admit I know very little about them (inc. Tokai versions), so really just have more questions than answers here, but ?? why does headstock have that rounded shape? If it?s Japanese, why the odd-shaped 3-screw...

Hi Martin, welcome to the Forum 8) . Re. info. before going to check the guitar ? Serial Numbers - guitar should have a 7-digit serial number impressed into the wood on back of headstock ? the first 2 digits give the year, if it?s a 93 model then number should be 93xxxxx ? see here for full list and...

Well despite my apparent certainty, maybe I'm wrong! Whoops  ! Well that info came from the Inland Revenue ... but sorry for stating it with such certainty. Have to be more careful in future lol :) .

QuattroSte ? either you were lucky (they don?t always bother to charge the tax?see lots of previous posts from me on this stuff), or else Irish Tax Regs. are different. Just to be crystal clear, in case other readers get misled here - in UK you DEFFINITELY have to pay full VAT on all such imported ...

Hi Solone , welcome to the Forum 8) . Things are slower here than Harmony Central or Les Paul Forum ? it?s a smaller club & may have to wait several days for any reply :-? . I didn?t reply because I know little about new LS70. It should be a good guitar, but my interest is really old guitars, so I ...

I'm surprised if that's the way Tax Law works in Ireland. In the UK you certainly have to pay full VAT whether it's 2nd-hand or not (I thought it was same throughout EU?). I think the guy who paid ?975 for an LS80 Reborn paid far too much (to help our US contributors, that?s $1710). But enough from ...

I don?t know how it works in Ireland, but if I import from Germany to UK then I?m exempt from Import Duty/Tax, but that?s only 3.5% anyway. However, afaik I still get charged 17.5% for VAT & that?s charged on full cost inc. shipping. If it?s all working OK then 79 LS80 Reborn should certainly be a l...

If you have to pay VAT at 17.5% then 1100Eu adds up to ?760 + ?133 tax. That?s very near the price of a new Gibson LP Classic or LP Standard. Despite Gibson?s poor reputation on QC (mostly small niggles), & despite my love for old Tokais, I have to say that some of the best guitars I?ve ever played ...

How about this ? it?s already in UK (so no tax, & minimal delivery costs), 5 hours left on the auction & its now ?620 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 28206&rd=1.
