Post photos if you have any. But it sounds like you've answered your own question and you're right to be suspicious.

3 screw TRC means MIK/MIC.

But what if the owner is asking only for 30000yen, for which I could barely get a MIK one. Do you think it is worth the price tag? That's entirely up to you. For me, I can see that this guitar has a complicated history. In order to make an informed decision I would need the seller to be VERY forthc...

Well, it's definitely MIJ, so that's good. The truss rod cover looks mid-90's to me but I could be wrong. It's obviously a flametop veneer over a maple cap, no fret edge binding and the surface chipping look like poly so I reckon it's a mid-range flametop MIJ (LS65F?). But there's some worrying elem...

so I wonder how you know about the whole poly+nitro deal then? :) I own an early '00s LS-200, which in the catalogue is listed as having "Finish = lacquer finish" while the next model up was listed as simply "Finish = lacquer", so there is a distinction in the specs even though it's not obvious wha...

The 2016 catalogue lists the LC210S as having a lacquer finish, the same term as used on the top of the line LS340. I would say therefore that it has a pure nitro finish. Any test that you could do on the hybrid finish - sight, smell, feel, chemical reaction - would tell you you're dealing with nitr...

Re: LC220S - is it nitro finished?

i've found on the internet that "LC-200 has lacquer finish over poly" . i imagine current LC220S is pretty much the same thing, so I wonder whether that's true that tokai use poly finish underneath that nitro? Yes, they've used this method on several high end models over the years. They do a thin '...

Dimensions of the holes of the TRC are the same as Gibson and some people prefer the bell shaped one. (As did I )
Agreed, I've got a Gibson Historic style bell on mine.

It's legit, no problem there. Not sure what it's value would be in your market, maybe someone else can help.

Value would be pushed up because of the good condition and un-dimpled (i.e. more Gibson-like) headstock.

I find it very suspicious that you can't see the word "Tokai" on any of the pictures. Why isn't there a photo of the front of the headstock?

Hey Brokentoes, thanks for the tip! it's a nice tool, lovely red especially in the sunshine! model-wise do you think it's the ES-155-SR ? any idea on date? Difficult to be exact on dates because of the lack of serial numbers, but it was probably only a few years old when you bought it. I agree with...

Steel is generally found in modern designs. Aluminium is used on more expensive/authentic vintage reproductions.

Aluminium is generally considered to have a smoother, sweeter tone.

Brass is generally reserved for vintage saddles.

It ringed a lot of bells. Although I'm not a tokai expert,I knew it wouldn't be a Japanese model. The seller Is trying to deal well below the price. What's the value of a guitar like that? What's the origin? Is it aliexpress like,or Canadian fake like? It's hard to get tell because the seller is be...

In my experience the weak links in this and similar guitars are the electronics and nut. Upgrade those and you'll have a workhorse that lasts forever. Pickups are optional depending on taste.
