I think of the Blues/HR devilles/deluxes as good "semi-pro" amps, better than entry level... sort of the "american standard strat" of the amp world. The reverb is none-too-good sounding on them, and they are voiced with too much "artificial midrange" to my ears. That being said, they are an industry...

a blown fuse is usually a sign of another problem. That said, it might be as simple as a faulty rectifier tube! Or as expensive as a power transformer...

I took it to Jim Millinchuk in NJ. He's supposedly THE SH*T when it comes to these sorts of things, so I'll let you know. I should have it back a week from Friday.

You don't have to live with it... it's probably something very simple, but would be impossible to diagnose without seeing it. If you know a reputable tech he might be able to give you an estimate. Good luck.

you probably know this but if it is the power tubes/valves, then change them both, not one at a time.

try changing them one at a time! Most probably a preamp tube but all tubes are suspect. It is very unlikely that all tubes are bad at once. If your amp has multiple preamp tubes of the same type (eg 12ax7) then try swapping positions to see if the problem moves. Also, try spraying some de-oxit or ot...

there's something really sweet about an old silvertone 1481. That 6X4 rectifier, one 6V6 and one 12AX7 really nails that sweet small-amp, compress-y sound.

changing pickups in a tele thinline...

Hey all. I wonder if anyone has experience replacing the humbuckers in the tele thinline '72 reissue. A friend of mine has enlisted my help, he apparently has ordered standard humbuckers... I understand the fender humbuckers on those guitars were rather large. Will he have to get a new pickguard mad...

changing from 10s to 9s I would loosen the truss rod about 1/8 turn as a general rule, maybe even 1/4. That is if you like the way the guitar plays now. Use your own judgement.

great jazz guitarist Dave Stryker recommended his guy to me and that's where I'm taking it.

Thanks for your kind words and solidarity. I'm beginning to cheer up as I realize that it's pointless to keep fretting over it.

disaster strikes

Well, was doing some practicing last night and got distracted in the middle of packing up, thought I had latched the case to my beautiful and nearly pristine 1953 Epiphone Triumph Regent, I love that guitar, has been my main guitar lately... Well, I pick up the case and it of course spills open and ...
