Hi Marcus, It's a hunt for me. The wife will join me a few days later for the leisure end of it. Specifically, I'd like to find a Springy or a JV Strat. Here's hoping... Jason I didn't notice any Springys on this trip but I wasn't looking for them either. Last trip (2 years ago) I played a 1...

Re: Planning a trip to Tokyo...

Hey guys, I'm planning to take a trip to Tokyo next month and I have a few questions for those of you who have been there or live there: 1. I understand that Ochanomizu is the mecca of Japanese guitars. Can anyone recommend a hotel close to there that will not cost me my first born? 2. What is the ...

Tokai sightings in Ochanomizu last weekend

I was in Japan the week before last and I took the opportunity to go guitar shopping in Shibuya and Ochanomizu last Saturday. I posted a detailed report on the Gear Page. It's down right now for maintenance but I'll post a link to it here when it comes back up. In the mean time, here are some Tokais...

Joe,

Looks like fun.

Where did you shop? Was it in Ochanomizu?

I've got a trip coming up (maybe as soon as the week after next) to Japan and Taiwan.

I shopped in Ochanomizu in summer '05, and I'm planning on spending a Saturday there on this trip.

Roger, Something like this, that shows the center seam and also the thin line of bright color near the upper edge of the top in the pickup cavity. Also I'd be interested to see other cavity at thios kind of angle to see if they have that kind of "chamfer" around the corners as in the second pic. htt...

http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s253/rgrafend/short150.jpg Rupert, Do you have a lower angle shot of that pup cavity? I think I see the same kind of color variation near the edge, and I think a few pic's might help to clarify the status of the disputed top on my 82 LS100: http://www.tokaiforum.c...

Wow, this thread has a long life, eh? It's funny that you guys aren't seeing too many MIJ guitars. I saw quite a few MIJ Tokai's in one shop in particular. I forget the name now, but it was on street level and it was kind of "L-shaped" around a corner and I think there was another little shop in the...

A higher end Tokai (really LS80+) from 1981 would not have a two piece body.

Duesenberg 49er

I picked this up at the Zoundhouse in Dresden on a recent business trip. Didn't get much response on the Gear Page, but I thought with the higher percentage of European posters here maybe there would be more interest. I love the action and the art deco styling. The humbucker is a little hotter than ...

That can't be right.

Those are nice guitars, but not worth anything near that much - are they?

I bought a Tokai ST-62 at a music store in Providence, RI in the late 80's, 88 I think. I had never heard of them before, but I really liked the guitar so I got it. He had some Breezy Sounds as well, but no Love Rocks as I recall. That was my main guitar, on and off, for quite a few years. I remembe...

Is that an adjustable bridge?

Do you know what flavor of P90's are in it?

Thanks,

I replaced the pups in my 83 LS80 (one was original, the other a Duncan custom as received) with a 57 Classic and custom wound Lindy Fralin. I love the Fralin. I think it is my single favorite pup. I like the Classic but it doesn't always balance well with the Fralin. Very amp (and even tube) specif...
