Thanks! I emailed Tokai to see if they knew any background on it. Got a nice email back confirming the model: Thanks for your inquiry to Tokai Gakki. As long as I check the old brochure, There are 3 models of Flamed Top, LS120V/LS150V/LS200V in 1980-1981. LS120V is the only laminated top model among...

1980 LS-120 Reborn Old Custom Order

Took a chance on this one, as there was no way to verify exactly what it was and only had a few bad pics to go on. So wasn't sure exactly what would show up. Here's what I found: Veneer flame top, one piece back, original electronics and Dimarzios, rosewood board, MOP inlays. Repaired break/crack at...

Thanks!

Both Cliff's and mine have the same pickups.
Assumed they were original to the guitars since they look to be the same?

Tokai Love Rock LS-80 GT (Gold Top) made in1980. All original unmolested guitar. It has been played over the years, so there are dings and scratches you would expect as can be seen in the photos. Thing that is really confusing is trying to understand what cashew lacquer is - made from cashew nuts.

I have an 81 ES100 as well :D
The top on it is very nice - a lot of figure in the wood and plays to the light.

Hi Mark. The translation I have of the '81 catalog shows the 150 is finished in cashew: "The whole series comes in black sunburst (SB), Tokai red (TR) or natural (N), with classic lacquer finish on the ES100 R and ES100J or cashew nut finish on the ES150R and ES150J" Shows the same in the specificat...

1981 ES-150J (ES-335 Style Tokai)

I've only recently joined, but been following for some time. Figured I'd share my favorite of the Tokai's I have. It's an 81 ES-150J. ES-150 and ES-100 were new models in 1981 and each came in Rock and Jazz versions. Mine is a Jazz version, which means it has the Jazz, rather than Rock pickups. The ...

Here's one of the POTs from mine

Given the open O on Greco (Mint Collection) and that Tokai was making Greco's in late 80's/early 90's, the pot would be FEB 1991?

First post for me here... I have one just like Cliff's. Pickups are the same: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/934/40913045194_7691e0ae89_b.jpg 3 by JDZ , on Flickr Cavity routing is the same as on my 81 Tokai ES-150. Fujigen made Greco's don't have the relief in bridge PU cavity either, just a hole f...
