Look at picture 6. The guitar is flattened down at the xlr jack and is then stained/clear coated to blend. The top binding is also flat. I doubt someone did this later and re-finished the guitar to match that would cost too much money. If someone did this later there would just be a curve at the jac...

Greco Thunderbird Bass

I have Several Tokais. I tokai made burney 1978 Les Paul and 2 81 LS80's plus a newer one. So I know how good good MIJ guitars can be. I have always wanted a Gibson Thunderbird Bass but never got around to getting one. It is not they type of bass I would use too often. I mainly use my Fender J-Bass....

Tokai Thunderbird Copy

I have 4 1978-1981 Tokai MIJ Les Pauls and I love them. Also have a Tokai/Cats Eyes CE500 Acoustic which sounds great. I always wanted to get a Gibson Thunderbird Bass but never got around to it. It is not something I would use too often. So, this is the reason I never got one. I see Tokai makes the...

So, what is the sound difference in the 2 piece neck vs a traditional one piece? Was this just done to make the neck stronger? Or was is cheaper to do?

Thanks for that.

I remember the Gibson Les Paul's (I think Deluxe) from the 1970's that had 3 piece necks. I think they also had something like a 12 piece body or something like that. Those things sounded terrible.

Yeah, I passed on that guitar. Just so I know if it has FEB (fret edge binding) it is a premium model correct? Like LS80 and above. I just want to know for the future. This is assuming it is 1978-1983 or so.

LS 50 and 60 have multi piece backs. I would get a LS80 or above. The only difference I know from LS80 to LS 100 is the pickup and a higher lacquer top. If you are planning on installing new picks it does not matter what you get (ls80 or above). I have heard that up to 1981 they were made the exact ...

I have not purchased the guitar yet. I see a lot of people trying to pawn off Tokai's that are not what they are posted as. This is why I wanted to post here asking about it first. Bad news for the seller who want $2,000 for it. If it was a LS80 I would have offered him $1,200 or so. I already have ...

Help identifying LS model Tokai from '85

Found this guitar seller say it is a LS80 1985. I asked to check the pickup cavity and take a picture of the 4 pots to help more. The pictures are pretty bad and I cannot tell enough from them. I should get some more pics tomorrow. If I do I will post them. Do any of you guys have any ideas from the...
