Sorted it. I ran a wire from the brass plate to the Jack Socket and now the hum (buzz) has gone.
However I am still puzzled as to why the volume drops noticeably when both pickups are turned to full volume. Anyone know why that might be?

Earthing a JB45?

Hello all, Having now lived with my JB45 for a while I want to do something about the exsessive hum. I notice from pics on other posting that Tokai JB's don't seem to have a connection to the earth pin on the jack socket or any earthing to the pots. I rewired my bass exactly as it was but I can't be...

Speaking as a buyer, if I were to want your guitar I would much prefer it to have the original pickup rather than the Kent Armstrong. For me the more original parts the better, no matter what they have beem replaced with.

That's a very nice looking set of Strats. In real my Strat looks closer to the Bacchus in the pic, it has quite a green tint to it, but I guess it is actually Lake Placid Blue. Bit disappointing though as I expected to have a matching pair! Not too unhappy though as I got the Strat for a goodish pri...

Thanks for your kind words Stratman. It was a cheap restoration as all I replaced were the pots, cap, knobs and the screws! Less than ?20 altogether. Lots of elbow grease though. The body was T-cut a couple of times and then I waxed it with Carnauba wax. Maybe you can help me with another question? ...

Hello all, Well I've more or less finished the Tokai and very nice it has turned out. Thanks. I'll have a look at my '79 precision later, I'm not sure where it is at the moment. I think my son has nicked off with it :o. I'm sure you're right though but I had it in my head it had slotted screws, I've only owned it 29 years and obviously haven't paid as much attention to it as I though...

Hi Magnus, Thanks for the speedy reply. The original cap is a ceramic but I suspect you are right and I will probably use the orange drop, but in my head I will know there is a modern part in there, lol. Regarding the knobs I will order the push ons for the time being and keep looking for screw ones...

Hi All, Getting along nicely with my bass, if a bit slowly. Should have some pics to show you soon. One question I need to ask is if the knobs on other peoples JB45's are push on or if they have a screw insert? If they have a screw insert is it a hex or screw? If a screw is it Philips or flat? I kno...

Here's another no name Tokai. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT Zero feedback too.
I have seen the unmarked strats before but not basses. Is it likely that they are made by Tokai?

There's a bit of a story really behind why it took so long for him to sell it to me, but eventually he needed some pocket money for a night out he was having in Manchester and this was the only thing he knew he could sell quickly. A text to me and the deal was done! If I did give him that quartet of...

:D Nice one!...if I can work out how to do it I will post some pictures of mine! It's easy. Put your pics onto an image hosting site, I use photobucket, and then just add the image [img] code into your text. The photo will show in your posting for as long as you leave it on photobucket. If you need...
