Re: Source of brass M4 posts and steel bushings for Tokai LS
Any news on this particular topic? I am looking for a brass thumb wheel as well as a brass bridge post. I found Faber is selling a M4 brass thumb wheel, but not a brass bridge post: https://www.faberguitar.com/index.php?k=96&lang=eng Faber sells a steel bushing for the tailpiece too: https://www.fab...

Re: Distinguish ES 100 R/J pickups
So the ES100J's had '57 PAFs instead of Gotohs for the ES100R? Interesting. Mine were definitely original to the guitar as the soldering on the (mini) pots were immaculate. Pretty good sounding pickups actually!

Re: Distinguish ES 100 R/J pickups
Here are the pickups from my '81 ES100J.
They measure 8.21 and 8.50K... but they don't exactly sound and feel that powerful. I guess the magnets are not that strong...

Re: NGD....ES100J
Lovely guitar! What is the neck profile on vintage ES100s? Is it generally same as the LS from the period? Any big differences? Based on my experience with two 1980 LS80s and two 1981 ES100s... I'd say the LS80 has a more rounded '58 profile, the ES100 feels a tiny bit slimmer. If I recall, the ES1...

Re: NGD....ES100J
Congrats, it looks mint! Based on experience with two ES100J's, the 'J' pickups are very low output and actually sound pretty good. I had mine changed for OX4's (again low output) and it's not a night and day difference. Mind, changing pickups and pots in an ES is one of the most frustrating jobs ev...

Nice figuring!
Interestingly, my Reborn Old has the serial # 00087xx, so the change from Les Paul Reborn to Reborn Old must have been between those numbers

If you high end Japanese, I would say yes. The brand new LS186 I tried lately is close to my 1980 LS80 but not quite up there, so my guess is that from a LS250 onwards it will be very close. Plus you don't need to alter things on it, like a refret or a new bridge because the old one. But you'll prop...
