Re: NGD....ES100J

Congrats, it looks mint! Based on experience with two ES100J's, the 'J' pickups are very low output and actually sound pretty good. I had mine changed for OX4's (again low output) and it's not a night and day difference. Mind, changing pickups and pots in an ES is one of the most frustrating jobs ev...

Re: NGD! Tokai LS80 1980 Les Paul Reborn

Nice figuring!

Interestingly, my Reborn Old has the serial # 00087xx, so the change from Les Paul Reborn to Reborn Old must have been between those numbers :) .

If you high end Japanese, I would say yes. The brand new LS186 I tried lately is close to my 1980 LS80 but not quite up there, so my guess is that from a LS250 onwards it will be very close. Plus you don't need to alter things on it, like a refret or a new bridge because the old one. But you'll prop...

Just lovely! Are these generally heavier due to the all mahogany body?

Unusual headstock on that one though, what's that about?
My ES100 has the same weird logo, very interested to hear the story behind this.

Some gorgeous basses here! I've noticed the 80 and up models from the early '80s are very rare indeed. I wouldn't mind a rosewood fingerboard PB80 myself :)

It is my impression that there are far less ones available for sale these days, plus the general public is more aware of them. Prices seem to have risen by 50% in the last 10 years. Still, in Europe they are far cheaper than a Gibson Custom Shop...

A friend of mine has a '81 ES100 that is just three serial numbers apart from my '81 ES100. His has a noticable thicker neck and soundwise a little bit more low end, other than that they are identical. Fantastic guitars! did he recently buy it? might be my old one.. big neck, sunburst. No, his is a...
