Re: Chinese Gibson Les Paul

UPDATE: I've had this instrument for a week now. The more bits I cut out of it & throw away, this guitar it ACTUALLY IMPROVING! In the first hour I had it, I yanked out the plastic nut & glued in a brass one. On the second day, I cut out the bridge pickup & tossed in a Rio Grande pickup I had layin...

I finished the "Yellow Peril" yesterday & took it for a spin this afternoon. It sounds & looks much better than it did when I first got it. I changed EVERYTHING but the bridge & threw all the original parts out. Just a little buzz on some uneven frets, but it worked out well & sounds great through m...

Barry - how could you be sure you'd get what you ordered - or anything at all? I'm tempted too. It's a very amusing thought. How about some feedback on the seller  You're right. There's an obvious communication obstacle with Bejing to start. What thought I ordered was a GOLDTOP & turned out t...

I bought one of these. Definitely a 20 footer. If you were playing for a bunch of drunks in a bar, they would not notice it's not a real Gibson. I have 3 real Les Pauls & the differences are obvious up close. In my opinion, this is how I feel about the quality of stuff I own from Asia. In order: 1] ...

What is this thing?

Anybody have any idea what this is? I think it's a Burny or a Tokai, but I'm not sure.

I have some Carvin stuff I like as well. I bought a new Bunny Brunel 5 string bass. Very fine craftsmanship for the money. Too bad they don't retain their value well.

Bought another Gibson.....

Sorry guys, I don't come here often to talk about Tokais as I should. I just spent a year with another Gibson Les Paul [Custom] I acquired for $950. this one is an 11 pound boat anchor with a tobacco sunburst [yeccch] finish. It has been refretted. has Sperzel locking keys & a few dings on the top t...

I owned an LP Classic + for a short time...just never felt quite right...most of the Tokai LPs I've played did.

You are right. I just took a very expensive lesson to come to the same conclusion. :-?

I just bought a real Gibson Les Paul Standard

:-? I don't know, maybe I got caught up in this "Buy American" wartime crap. I own 2 of Mike's Love Rocks which I have been upgrading over time & they have been working out very nicely. However, I always had this doubt that "maybe they're not as good as a real Gibson"Since I have never OWNED one I h...

...all his replies made me laugh :D ... us tokaiforum members should stick together thats for sure. Screw that guy. He had a Goldtop Love Rock on Ebay in a no reserve auction. I couln't tear my eyes away from it for days, including at work. Even though the neck profile was fatter than I like, I was...

WTF is a tenon? A tenon is the part of the neck that slots into the body. Thanks for the answer. I was not aware of that! Since I am obviously not a Les Paul type person, I have another question: What is the difference soundwise between chrome, nickel & aluminum stop tailpieces? Where can I purchas...
