Metal flim resistors are temperature stable, and carbon unfortunately isn't, even brand new. That's the sound we like, and engineers don't understand. Here's how I measure that; take a simple 100K Plate load resistor in metal film and an old carbon composition type. Measure them, and leave your mete...

I really believe that is just one more example of the myths and hype that gullible guitar players fall for. I know I'll take a beating for saying that, but I'm used to it. I mean, we live in an age where we thought cloth covered wire sounded 'better'. Complete BS, but come on now; how many of you fe...

And aren't pickups the heart of the tone? Even the P90's in any Junior I've had were microphonic. So there's a huge flaw with the guitars in my mind. I don't wish to argue either so just a few points. Pickups are NOT the heart of the tone, the wood is and as far as pickups being a "huge flaw" well ...

I think comparing guitars to amps is a waste of time........ Mick What I was implying is the philosphy of finding flaws in gear that thousands of other people still want to buy is flawed itself. I don't need to tell you the crazy money people are buying for 'vintage' Love Rock or Reborn guitars. Ba...

And I believe those are two of the real flaws in the Blues Junior. It's hard to believe Fender doesn't have an engineer who understands EL84's, but apparently they don't. And the stock speaker is crap. You can replace the speaker, rebias the EL84's, and maybe monkey with the feedback loop, and achie...

Off of the Fender track, but when they were blowing out the discontinued Crated V18, you could have scored one for $150. And GC had scratch-and-dent floor demo ones for $99. No way in Heck you'll top that deal. Even if you don't dump another $150 for upgrades and mods, it'll still be as good as any ...

Certainly it is a well made pedal. And the hinged treadle is unique. No copying Boss here. But the effecet itself is just not making me say WOW! I know as I turn the knobs I hear a lot of scratchiness, so maybe the pots need to be cleaned  Maybe with that out of the way there will be a more co...

With my limited edyamakashun, I will throw out a hypothesis and say more than likely. If it is a parallel loop, I really believe you would still hear the signal routed through the rest of the amplifier. And since 99% of loops are parallel, Robert's yer auntie's husband. Now a series loop is a horse ...

Re: Boss DS-1 with 'pedaldoc' tube driver mod

I know there are a lot of home-brew mods for the DS-1, which are probably cheaper to do than buying a kit, but I'm not great with electronics and I thought a kit was a good lazy option. The mod was pretty easy to carry out too. You are changing a few resistors, and more likely a few capacitors. Tha...

Too late. It's mine. Either it isn't quite right (unlikely, since it is sooooo clean), or this just isn't my favorite compressor. I doubt there's anything needing to be 'fixed' on it, so I just have to dink around with it a lot more, and find the sweet setting. So, who has one? How are you using it?...

Tokai TCO-1?

I have a chance to grab a dead mint black TCO-1, but I don't know a thing about them. I have more than a few compressor pedals already, and even a few rack mount dbx units. Is the TCO-1 just another VCA compressor? Will it be any different from my Dyna-Comp or DOD Milkbox? Thanks in advance for any ...

:o :o :o That's even more Japanese guitars that I own! I had the Ibanez V, and traded that for a Tokai Jazz Bass that eventually went for a Tokai Silver Star that I still have. I see Greco, Burny, .... wow. I thought I was being a pack rat keeping three LP's  Wow. That's a collection. Maybe I ...

Well, I hadn't thought of that . It's just the Johnny Winter in me that thought of a Firebird. I'm actually dumping Strats and Teles I have for 'other' guitars like Specials. I have no idea why. Perhaps a mid-life crisis? I'm just craving a change in gear, and since I ain't that lucky that I c...

I'm thinking of unloading a Reborn and getting a Firebird!

I may be crazy  but I feel like getting rid of one of my Reborn/Love Rock guitars and getting a Firebird (Tokai, of course). The Reborn I have in mind is all original and the serial number dates it from 1980. It has a '60' stamped at the last fret. I am in Canada, and I'd like to keep it in Ca...

Well, I hope everyone had a safe Xmas. I just thought I drop in and tell anyone who was curious what I ended up doing. I 'splurged' for the pair of '57 Classic PU's, and they are in my Love Rock right now. They sound fine, and the squeal is gone. The original neck PU measured 8.43K, while the '57 Cl...
