Re: 'Linos' guitar - anybody got any info ?

Don't worry, there are soooo many great guitars out there! Not that Chinese guitars wouldn't be awesome at times, but there's also a gazillion of underrated MIJ guitars at low second hand prices, and the chance that they'll win your heart is much higher because they have much more overall consistenc...

Re: I have been sitting on an ES100

How does it compare to your other guitars when you play them "dry" w/o amp (with new strings of course)? Does it lack life and treble too? If not, what DC resistance do the PUs have? If they're >8 kOhms that may contribute to the problem. Semihollows often benefit from low output PAFs , maybe even g...

Re: tokai, positive or negative in your country?

Here in Canada it seems that Tokai is usually associated with Fakai's. There are real ones around too but no one has heard of them which makes me wonder why anyone here would fake an unknown brand ?? IIRC and AFAIK the odd Canadian "Fakai" story is a somewhat touchy issue in some forums (including ...

Re: tokai, positive or negative in your country?

At that time the Tokais were showing up first in the EU, almost everyone was still thinking "Made in Japan = cheap knockoff guitars" and only Ibanez and Yamaha had gained some "originality credits" (with still a whiff of "knockoff" image). Almost nobody knew about the JDM at that time, or what wonde...

Re: Found this MIJ Tokai Telecaster on Reverb, advise needed, please

Hi David, I'm not the resident Tokai expert but that appears to be a post-2000 ATE-50 (MIJ stamp above the heel, unmarked bridge, no serial). AFAIK they sold for ~450 quid back then, so the price appears to be <cough> a bit steep (even considering the usual Reverb.com markup). I hope some UK based e...

Re: TOKAI-UK / TOKAI-EUROPE ?

Maybe your emails are going into their spam folder? Many legit emails end up there and if they don't check their spam folder on a regular basis, it's really hard to reach someone nowadays. The best way is usually to try a different email account for emailing them, hoping that the sender domain or IP...

That's some classy stuff! Great info page for European customers, too! However, the wire information is missing and maybe a word about shipping fees would be great?.

Re: A faceb post

a luthier master, called "Sensei", is overseeing all steps of the construction. So there are workers and a superior foreman/floor manager with some higher responsibility? Yeah that's completely unheard of in any industry. :) Wikipedia says that "Sensei" is a honorific term translated as "person bor...

Re: [NGD] Zeus Custom Guitars ZST-60

In discussion with someone at 246 guitars I was told that PGM was making these guitars. No surprise that they are top notch. Interesting, thank you for asking someone at Ikebe, wulfman (after all they're one of their dealers)! Of course I was curious and asked ZCG via the contact form a while ago a...

Re: lacquer or nitro?

Not a native speaker (or an expert on guitar paint jobs) but I think "lacquer" is the umbrella term commonly used for any hard finish based on non-synthetic resins, sometimes using solvents, confusingly acrylic lacquer is based on a synthetic resin but still referred to as "lacquer" and was used on ...

Re: [RLC-60] New old Burny owner / (kind of) dating thread

I don't care much for weight issues/pros/cons but I was curious and yesterday I had a chance to put my Burny on a scale. Surprise, surprise: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lt7df5blp7laruz/Burny_RLC-60_Weight.jpg?dl=1 I didn't expect that it's actually only 3.94 kg or 8.6lbs (only 300g more than my heavie...

Re: [NGD] Zeus Custom Guitars ZST-60

These really look fantastic. I really like their take on the old Squire Vista Supersonics. Unfortunately, I really like their take on everything else too, not to mention all what all the other small custom shops have to offer (e.g. the Sonic/Lumtric guitars from the thread next door). JDM is a dang...

Re: [NGD] Zeus Custom Guitars ZST-60

I also just got a Zeus ZAT-STD "Athena" - the love child between a tele and a SG. It's the green with serial number: #1708MP HNGD to you too! I think the Athenas are an interesting and (to me) visually pleasing crossover concept. I guess "MP" is some shop that ordered 8 of those, it seems there are...

Re: repair ???

Could be filler but if the coat lifts off the wood it looks that grey-ish/milky too. Just to make sure you understood my theory, the neck joint/heel are where nitro finished set-neck guitars in general and 335s in particular develop finish cracks due to wood pieces "working" differently. Poly finish...
