Sorry to bother you Mike. Can I just ask if your tokai has 11 screws attaching the scratch plate or 8?

Thanks

Raver
It has 8 screws since it's a 50's model with a mapleneck. The rosewood (60's) models usually have 11 screws.

Re: Can you help?

I asked Him to put more photos up and he has. :) It looks like my 2001 AST50 except that mine has a one piece mapleneck. The tone and sustain is excellent on my guitar, at least as good as my springy and older goldstars. It's also very well built. The switch is crap through as mentioned before. And...

Re: Can you help?

It's hard to tell from the pictures. If it's japanese it should have a 7,25" fretboard radius. I have an AST50 from 2001, it does not have any serial number at all and no made in Japan text. They also used a crappy plastic YM-50 switch (same as Ibanez) on those strats. The korean AST33's of that per...

Re: Opinions on this ST60 ?

if you like the maple neck (I prefer rosewood 'board) then it looks OK to me. since it is an early Goldstar it is a shame the seller didn't get detailed shots of the saddles & the trem block. it may have the (old) zinc block from the Springy era; it may have the steel block from the Goldstar era. D...

In Sweden you actually got a case with most Tokais in the 80's (don't know about the cheapest models). With the JSX-70 I bought in -86 I got the cloth tweed case. The TLS-50 I bought in -84 came with the black Tokai LP case and the TST-50 bought in -85 came with the nylon tweed case.

Are you sure about the bolt-on? It has a three screw trc, seems like a korean model to me. And the ad did not say made in china for the other one at first. Mike He doesn't have a problem truthfully declaring what they are. One is a MIC Tokai and the other is a bolt-on MIJ. I think he's unaware of wh...

I love the soft v-neck, I have a bastard Tokai (early Goldstar, metallic red) TST50 with a TST60 or 80 v-neck (need to check if it's poly or laquer finish). I love that beaten up old strat. It has U pickups and a hotrail in the bridge position. The original neck was warped unfortunately. I've owned ...

It's definitely a 1958 model with a 5 digit serial and a rounded neck shape. I don't remember the codes but I'll se if I can see them if I loosen the pickguard. The body join is not centered but I can't find another join. Did they use center join also for the solid colors? The tuners look like nicke...

Peter, I have a 1982 Springy Sound (black, maple neck) bought from the original owner in Germany. Would it be possible to find out if it's a TST50 or 60? As I understand the difference is the pickups otherwise the spec seem to be the same. Same neck profile etc. The body seem to be made of 2 pieces....

Just one thing - the TST-40 was available already in 1985. This is from the 1985 catalog:

I tested a double cut when it was new - it id not have the dimple though. It was a great guitar and I almost bought it. It was definitly made in japan. I think they are quite rare, in Sweden I've only seen the one I tested. I regret that I didn't buy it.
